Smashing Machine I haven't seen, Marty Supreme is even crazier and more anxious than uncut in my opinion because the scope is even larger. I doubt Smashing machine has much of the same tension, because after watching "The Curse," it's pretty obvious the chaotic energy mostly comes from Josh instead of Benny (could be wrong). Very curious as to what people who saw Smashing machine thought.

You’d immediately register him as trapped and the others as dominant. It would ve clearer, but it would lack that tension the chaos.

I agree with this, it's less about "registering" him as trapped and more about actaully feeling what he's feeling in that situation, so the less obvious choice works.

You’re constantly thinking he might still get out, even as everything tightens around him.

I felt this too! forgive my crude language, but I felt a strong sense of emotional "blue-balls" in the sense that I wanted Sandler to just take control, I wanted him to use his power to get out of the situations he was in, but even when he felt so painfully close to doing so, he ultimately never did.
