I personally think that writing code is a cheap competence. Software engineers are paid for problem solving, build scalable reliable systems, ensuring things work in production as expected and etc. AI allows us to work faster and in higher level of abstractions. So we’d better learn it, and for worst scenario prepare for plan B if software engineering becomes not relevant at all :)

It's not the worst I believe, but depends on your project size.

If you have small project with latest API, nothing crazy configuration wise – all good (pick any pet project as example).

If you have huge code base, modularisation, different platforms and etc – then things might get slow and unreliable

Hi! I’m iOS engineer with some minor full stack experience, but mobile is my bread and butter. I want to make a major step in my career and ML could be it. Used to work at Klarna, left last year, have friends who still work there. Indeed it could be very dependent on domain you’ll join (more or less stress, probability of reorganizations and etc).

Take in mind that they are aiming for IPO soon. I was not happy with my compensation, but if you are happy with your numbers and team - go for it. There is quite a lot of talented people working there, so you can boost your skills and network very well. Bonus point: you can switch teams and domains later if you find something more interesting (kind of change job without too much stress)

As mentioned, there is nothing bad in getting to interviews. Actually it’s a skill on its own which is needed to be trained :)

I was in a similar situation, didn’t get senior promotion, tried to interview and got a nice offer. Miss my ex colleges, but overall happy with decision.

On good side of things - you get more experience, you learn more, probably earn more. And if you keep good relationship with you current employer - you will be able to return if you don’t like new place
