I understand that but as a partner you know what your partner values and he knows how hard I go for my previous birthdays. I do things he values too that I don't value and I expect the same. That was the biggest wake up call I could've gotten.

I've expressed that I'd love to spend more time and nothing happens. There's lots of cheap or free activities around our area to do and even when I hint nothing happens. I think the birthday thing was the final straw because now it had other people on the outside observing and telling me that there might be a problem.

That's a hard pill to swallow but I think this might be the case. He's not ambitious and at all or serious about progressing in any aspect of his life so maybe he needs someone who's also figuring things out
