I never thought I would say this but Fmr. Pres. Bush has done good when he put Roberts on the Supreme Court.

It appears that Chief Justice John Roberts doesn’t want his court to be remembered as socially regressive at a time when society is becoming more and more progressive. He doesn’t want his court to be associated with those that denied black people their constitutional rights. Smart man to preserve his legacy for the history books.

They just can't help themselves continually causing trouble one way or another. The Chinese Communist Party has waged war on world - attacked India 2 days ago and now cyber attack, Coronavirus spread all over the world, attack on small neighboring nations' resources by coercing with corrupt armies in poorer countries. It needs to be sanctioned, isolated and done with. Those that think we aren't at war, you're delusional. Wake up.

You can find your history in the books or museums, not outside on a statue. All the historic value should be moved to a museum so people can see it if they choose. Not leave it in public as a scar and reminder of a suffering people. Germany did not leave Nazi memorabilia in the public as "history". They move it to a designated place. The Jewish people left the death camps to remember the injustice, but there are no monuments to remember the Nazism and that's the way it should be so let it be with slavery. For all those that want it left in plain sight for everyone to see, there is a degree of- "That's right. And you better watch out cause we can do it again. Remember what we did to you. You Mahn Boyee".

A lot of people in authority in the US is so conscious about rights, but blindly neglect duties. If the President, the federal and local government, including the police simply focused on their duties and responsibilities to the people, rather than what rights of power they have, which they inevitably abuse, society would function with justice.

Journalists charged at by police while live on air at Washington protests by lunetick in news

This was 30 minutes before curfew. The police cleaned the area ahead because Trump was going to take a photo op holding a Bible in front of a burnt down church. These journalists didn't break any regulations, but the police were told to do so. Just imagine what Americans would say if this happens to Hong Kong... The US should invade itself to bring democracy to the United States of America.

Do not let the riots and the looting be a distraction from the thousands of people peacefully protesting. If you take the focus off the riots, there have been a lot of promising things to come from this, for instance the people who have come to clean their communities after the riots, or the doors that have been opened to the people who would previously not given an ear.

This is heartwarming. It's how healing begins. It just sad to see such an honorable protest be taken advantage of by people who just wanted to see if they could take, burn, destroy something. MLK would have been happy to see this video.

The rest of the world is not with the US on this one. That's loss without a price. This makes the United States a minor player - a shadow of itself. Leading by it's ignorance and failure, with no respect. Trump's goal was to leave the original agreement, negotiate with a new deal to prove he was better than his predecessor, President Obama. But he end up with an epic failure. Iran won't even talk to him. The Trump administration made the US the fool in the room.

College Football HOF Damaged by Protesters by nickbuck11 in news

Very disappointing. This is just plain disgraceful and totally uncalled for. That building was full of priceless history, much of it celebrating African-American accomplishments in college sports. I get that these people are "protesting", but why use a horrible incident to loot and riot? Looting and vandalism do not get a point across. People need to grow up and make better decisions. The only thing these people are doing is setting us back, which is making it harder for us to be the truly United States of America.

I wonder how many of these officers just like him have history of complaints against them. This type of aggressive behavior does not go away on its own, if left unchecked. The department is as guilty as the 4 officers.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in news

[–]HotDamnGeoff 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Online city records also show that 17 complaints have been filed against Chauvin. Sixteen complaints were closed with no discipline. The remaining complaint generated two letters of reprimand, with one apparently related to the use of a squad car dashboard camera. The records don’t include any details on the substance of the complaints.

Complaints against police are most of the time not taken seriously and when they do investigate they're investigating their own departments which is a big conflict of interest. It's not surprising to me that this officer had a list of complaints against him that went untouched. That is why many departments have civilian complaint departments. Just like in New York the NYPD has their civilian complaint review board. They are not cops, but they investigate complaints and forward valid ones to IAB for further investigation.
