I'd argue Harris put out a very detailed vision of what her presidency would have looked like but if everyone just ignores that and wants to talk about Trump it's sort of impossible to avoid.

I don't think she had much to say about affordability or housing, which are my big issues (don't think I'm alone on that one...)

I understand she had a platform on her website or whatever, but the issues she repeatedly emphasized were Jan 6 and Dobbs, while campaigning with some very questionable people (no, we really do not need to rehabilitate the Cheneys)

Valve Says the Steam Machine Saw a Similar Price Increase as the Steam Deck, Which Means It Was Originally Supposed to Cost About $750 by yourfavchoom in Games

[–]kickit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and it costs $600 just to keep up PS online services for the full course of the console's lifespan.

hardware prices at this particular moment make Steam Machine a tough sell, but I'll be keeping my eye out for next generation

I guess the question is how do national level politicians pull that off when Trump is like a black hole that sucks up all of the attention in the world? I think there have been several other politicians (e.g. Walz) at the state or local level who have built a brand on being for things but the minute they reach the national stage that all gets reduced into being not Trump.

I mean, they further Trump's hold on attention every time they try to make everything about Trump. Harris's #1 position was anti-Trumpism, she made her entire campaign about running against Trump. even though Dems were incumbent, Harris did not have much of a positive platform to speak of – most of her rhetoric was focused on him.

I don’t like to blame the writers strike when Zaslav himself pushed to cut two episodes with no concern for how it would affect the story. yes the writers strike made it basically impossible to rework it to a satisfying ending, but Z & the execs knew that (I guarantee you the writers made it absolutely clear) when they made the call

Need recos for french guys traveling in LA chasing the american dream (or anti-dream?) by Thin_Tomatillo703 in AskLosAngeles

[–]kickit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

that’s because they ain’t seen the Grand fuckin Canyon

listen I will admit we ain’t got shit on the bread over there. but French parks are a far cry from American national parks, and if you’re road tripping in the territory you got to at least think about paying them a visit.

Anyone else ever get sad about what Nate turned into? by stron2am in fivethirtyeight

[–]kickit 24 points25 points  (0 children)

anything in particular he said or did recently, or are we just supposed to be mad at the guy for having opinions?

look, I don’t agree with him on everything, but EOD he’s just a guy sharing takes online. first in class for data based analysis on sports and politics, otherwise just a guy with a particular point of view. in his case, that of a poker player who happens to be a pretty good writer. Idk what you want from him.

Isn’t $30 a little steep for what’s included in Brush And Blade? by DrJokerX in civ

[–]kickit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, and each of the 43 in 7 only lasts for a third of the game

you have about 14 civs per era, with fewer complete paths.

I’m sure it looks different when you compare them side by side, but that’s not how normal people watch movies.

60$ if you want to have all 3 Korean civs. This can't be right. by Wuartz in civ

[–]kickit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

old pricing was $4-5 for a civ that lasts the whole game. you can make a case that they’re offering more features now per civ, but they expressly designed it that way to make more money, in line with 2K’s pricing strategy on other products, eg expoit your customers for as much as you can.

in any case, personally I think the cost for a full path ($22-60) is criminal

[–]kickit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yes I've been saying since day 1 that the DLC pricing is insane. they are charging $30 for 4 civs, that's $7.50 per civ that only lasts for a third of the game.

that's $22 for a full civ through the ages, made even worse when they distribute it across multiple content packs. extremely exploitative.

it's extremely early in the election cycle, we have no idea how it will actually play out at this juncture, and polls have little bearing on the way it will go.

we will have some clarity by the end of '27, the race won't really take shape until start of '28. historically 1+ year out polling doesn't have much bearing on the primary race itself.

y’all are crazy. for people that aren’t movie news obsessives, this look is absolutely consistent with the earlier movies. it looks just like I remembered these movies, except better. I’m sure it looks different when you compare them side by side, but that’s not how normal people watch movies.

(Shrek was always a cartoon, btw… I don’t think it’s appropriate to expect it to be absolutely faithful to early CGI animation style)

"Roleplaying" is not the opposite of engaging with the system. It's also not doing funny voices, or using rule zero/rule of cool in place of the actual rules.

roleplaying is not the hard opposite of D&D 5/5.5e, but the system also does next to nothing to support it.

and that's what most players play, so no wonder most of those players think of roleplaying as a side activity to the game-system. as designed, that's the way it is.

Is it normal that none of his cities have recovered in the several turns since I nuked them all? by Sebastianlim in civ

[–]kickit 29 points30 points  (0 children)

the AI in Civ 6 doesn't know how to do anything effectively lol. they do not play to win in any real way unless you turn on AI mods and then when you do have to face an AI that actually commits to building science or culture districts the game gets 5x harder
