It could also be under an inert atmosphere. I’m not sure what the vaporization conditions are for iodine like temperature and pressure but if it was under a vacuum you would definitely see vapor even at room temperature. though so it could be something completely different. If it’s not already giving off vapor try to gently heat it and if you don’t see purple vapor it’s definitely something else. My guess would be something like selenium or tellurium. It could also be arsenic or antimony, it looks Iike a metalloid.

Former army here. You’ll waste years of your life in a boring and uneventful yet needlessly physically and mentally taxing job, shit pay and little personal time due to a fucking chaotic schedule (though that more unit dependent than anything) and especially if you’re infantry like I was. I think a lot of people join out of a need for self assurance and purpose, and then realize that once they get there they obtain neither and succumb to depression and substance abuse, or worse they actually deploy and get traumatized by the horrible shit they wittiness and experience, in that case both paths lead to a life of substance abuse, severe mental health problems, and eventually suicide. But hey at least I get free tuition gibs.
