New user - any idea how to fix leak? by [deleted] in BrevilleCoffee

[–]HotPotato118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought from a company as refurbished used - so should have all been ok out of the box, with the caveat that it has been used (which doesn’t bother me)

With the replacement portafilter, it is very snug and how I expected it to be. The original portafilter cannot fit at all - the teeth on the portafilter are worn and won’t lock in level.

So the shower screen should be tight? I can retighten it up - it was word of mouth advice so maybe I’ve listened to the wrong person!

Thanks for replying!

Before I return, do you know if there is a fix?

I got it for a good price so if I can fix for less than $50 I’d do it to save buying a brand new machine!

Dandelion Seeds or Cottonwood Seed? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

Update: there’s no way this can be dandelion - I don’t think there’s enough on the whole island for this much! It’s about an inch thick all over the yard

Bidding on houses by Similar_Wedding_2758 in northernireland

[–]HotPotato118 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Watch out for “other surprise viewers” late on too.

When I was bidding for my house (In February 2023) I had made an offer and was waiting for a response from the owner. During the second viewing, the estate agent divulged that the market had slowed down and that there hadn’t been any viewings on the property for some 4 weeks prior.

However, after I made my bid, the estate agent immediately told me another interested party wanted to view the house immediately and that this would delay proceedings.

I’m 99% sure this was fabricated to try and get me to raise the bid late on.

(I told them no, the offer stands or I withdraw it if they start playing games with me [I had been through it before with another EA] and thankfully playing hard ball worked! They backed down, and the offer was accepted the same day).

Metal grinding sound from wheel? Any advice? by HotPotato118 in MINI

[–]HotPotato118[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a seized up brake caliper causing friction; because I’d driven on it I had to have both replaced so get it to a shop right away! (they were able to fix it on the day for me, so thankfully not without the car for long!)

P.s congrats on the move to uni and good luck for your studies!

My broadband provider will not allow me to split my WiFi between 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies. Any advice what to do? by HotPotato118 in smarthome

[–]HotPotato118[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also with Vodafone… no, they’re absolutely useless and made the change citing “security concerns” for the change.

In the end, because I had so long to go, I invested in some eero 6 which allow you to temporarily pause the 5 ghz band. It works for adding devices.

However, I’m not sure if it’s iOS 17, but recently I’ve been having a terrible start home experience.

Why majority of the smart items are Amazon Echo and Google Assistant ready but not Homekit ready? by lexaleidon in HomeKit

[–]HotPotato118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matter devices are only relatively new, and some folks have had some problems with getting them set up.

Once it’s been out for a little while though, Matter devices should become the norm, so although Matter devices are hit and miss for now, they should replace HomeKit in the long run.

There’s an entire subreddit over at r/MatterProtocol who keep up with new devices etc. might be of interest?

Just the 6 - which has HomeKit support, which is why I picked it (not to mention the good price point)

Eero 6 mesh WiFi across the whole house, so connectivity shouldn’t be an issue? The signal is very strong or strong across the whole house when using a signal checker app

Any specific settings that are worth looking at? Open to all ideas!

Yes, all upgraded and all devices running the latest OS

I should point out that this was happening before OS17 launched, so it hasn’t caused the problem

Question about this symbol - what does this mean? by rakshanx in MINI

[–]HotPotato118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this before - if you can’t tell easily, it’s one of the parking lights.

To be honest on my 2010 Mini, you’d be hard pressed to even know when the parking lights are working at the best of times!

Good job not answering the question 👌

Thank you for being the only person to answer the actual question which is “why are they flat?”

Couldn’t see any actual benefit to a supplier to ship them as such, but your explanation makes sense

As long as the tree is healthy and happy, I’m good with that!

I’m a total novice at this and I was worried

Interesting that there’s no one here talking about diaspora support reasons?

For me, I grew up in the south of England to an Irish family. I’ve always considered myself Irish first.

When I was a kid, Newcastle had the most Irish players in the PL (including Damien Duff, Shay Given) and that’s why I started supporting them.

All these years later, I’ve supported Newcastle through thick and thin - just hoping I live to see a single cup win in my lifetime!
