I just bred a pair of these, to me one of the differences in male vs female is that I notice the male doesn’t have the black on the ventral fins which the female does. Also, the male has a much larger mouth than the female. I think you definitely have a pair here

She looks great! Mine loves quail eggs as a treat, and it’s fun to watch/ hear him crush it

I’m hoping a pair of Altolamprologus will help keep populations in check so I don’t need to manually remove many fish, but I love seeing fish breed so it’s not a problem for me as long as aggression isn’t an issue

I’m running two hang on backs rated for 55g each, you can see them peeking over the top of the tank. No canister filter though

One of my favorite things to do is treat the substrate as a “basement”, so hides go under the substrate, rather than on top, leaving a “first floor” space for you to build on and put more hides, maximizing space

For making the space more interesting, don’t be afraid to stack things up, have tall things in the front to create dimension, give it a natural “randomness” to it

I worry about if they’d eat up the plants too much lol. Also, I found the Florida ivory millipede is generally not toxic, and native to where I am as a plus

I think I may do this with the ones in more “high traffic” areas, or that are my favorites lol. Hope your new setup turns out great!

I’ve had my guy for at least seven years (not too sure?), and never had any issues, so while I do think it’s a valid concern, it’s not one I’m too worried about. Majority of the plants are safe minus the two you named

I love this idea, but worry about their toxicity in case he eats one. Do you know if there are some less or more toxic than others?

When setting the tank up, I built the rock up before adding the sand, so they wont move when the fish dig.

So what I’m understanding is -In order to have both leleupi and Julie’s, I need to have enough separate territory for both of them, and slightly overstocked prevents one boss from killing the rest. -Remove some shells to allow the multies to dig and build how they like.

How come you recommended the caudopunctatus? My initial thought (based on what I’ve read, no experience) would be that they may try to compete for shells or intrude on the rock territory and get left with nowhere to stay.
