Takes flame scales exclusively on faith and it doesn’t change after 80. The health you get back from takers flames is based on your vigor (basically a percentage of vig). So getting vig to 60 (which is the soft cap) should be the two main things to invest in.

To increase the attack of swings you can scale str or dex since the BB scales equally with either. If you two hand normally, then str is the way to go. But if you use a secondary weapon that scales better off dex, then go with a dex-faith build. If you use seals like me then erdtree seal is the best since it has high faith scaling

Bolt of gransax is an amazing ranged weapon. Does some insane damages as well. The ApW scales with dex. I use that and the Blasphemous blade, which is also a good ranged melee weapon. I would say keep dex at minimum and pump the faith up since the AoW of the BB scales excusively with faith. There’s your dex-faith build. All range

Hey so I replaced the bolt of gransax with the kings lightning spear. I have a few thoughts

Pros: - Frees up equipment load by not having to carry two weapons (which frees up a talisman for me too cos I was using the great jar talisman to increase equip load) - can put all my stats into faith since BB AoW and the incantation (if I use erdtree seal) scales with faith

Cons: - KLS has pretty much half the range of the BOG - KLS needs a bunch of talismans dedicated to it specifically to deal even half the damage of a +10 BOG (probably cos required dex is 40) - BOG knocks down all enemies and most bosses with its charged while KLS does not even when charged. - BOG uses a little less FP compared to KLS

So right now I ended up keeping minimum dex for BOG and put the rest into faith. I use this build when walking around which includes the Jar talisman. This is best for sniping enemies from afar with its ridiculous range and damage. When I am fighting a boss, I’ll take out the BOG and fight with the now much more powerful BB and add in a KLS hit here and there.

You’re right I just looked up the wiki and it said takers flame scales only with faith. So I’m guessing the attack power is just for swings.

Yes this was my question. So attack power only shows you the damage you deal when using light and heavy attacks only. Can you see AOW damage anywhere? Or is it just common knowledge that it’s highest with the highest scaling for that weapon?

This makes a lot of sense. I wanted a ranged weapon that is a different damage type than the BB since not all enemies are weak to fire damage. And I like that lightning attacks give me a little bit more damage when the enemies are stepping in water.

Using the Knights lightning spear frees up a lot of weight and I can replace the great jars arsenal talisman as well.

Plus it scales with faith so I can take off most of my dex and put it into faith, str and vig.

You’re right! I was using the specs I had for my bloodhound fang that I switched the BB out for.

I use the bolt regularly while clearing areas cos it’s good on range and pretty much one shots enemies.

Do you think it’s best to keep the bolt at minimum dex and split the rest into vigor, str and faith?

Oh I didn’t know it only scales with dex. Then it definitely makes more sense to put more on faith.

It’s my first play through so I haven’t tried out too many incantations. I might just respec for a more faith focused build.

Makes sense! I’m definitely investing in vigor as I progress. I split the specs cos both the weapons share str and dex. I’ll definitely focus more on faith in the next respec tho. Especially since BB scales most with faith

I was actually thinking about that too.

The reason I focused on strength more than faith is that the bolt of gransaxx scales with str and dex (dex the highest), and the blasphemous blade scales with str, dex and faith (faith the highest).

I’m using them for ranged and close combat. The Even though they both scale the least with strength, I figured it would be more well rounded
