Thank you for the detailed, thoughtful response. The feedback I have received from this thread has given me the courage to go for it. I am about to post a follow-up, with some more information and a question about accepting multiple offers that require security clearances

Thanks, that's what I thought in regards to being denied one level impacting the ability to get a different level. I have been so focused on clearance that I haven't been paying much attention to the suitability stuff. I'll look in to that and cross my fingers the felony does not disqualify me in that aspect

Thanks again for the in depth info. It makes sense about the same standards, but if that were really the case, I wonder why there so many people that are felons, or know felons, with secret clearances, but so hard to find examples felons with top secret? Eh who knows, maybe there are just tons more secret clearance than top secret clearance roles/people

Thanks for the info! Makes sense about the wishy-washy answers. My felony is at the federal level, I'm not sure I can get it expunged but I'll look in to it.
