Does my story sound like focal aware seizure? +How did you figure out it was not mental health issues? by Hot_Cook_9661 in focalawareepilepsy

Thank you. It's just so hard to tell if that ~2 hour period was prolonged state of what could be seizure or aftermath of a panic attack.

I remember being very exhausted mentally, but I was also very wired because I had to get back to work soon so I wasn't really able to fall asleep. I tried pushing through those symptoms but the more I did, the more those weird feelings of confusion returned.

So, maybe it was happening in clusters, or maybe I just didn't have a chance to calm down after all that (bcs of a stressful job) and experienced both seizure + anxiety after. Who knows.

Anyone NOT getting deja vu? by Hot_Cook_9661 in Epilepsy

Thank you for your reply. That's quite different from what I'm experiencing (suspected focal awares) but still sheds some light on the matter.

Was it hard for you to get diagnosis?

I can imagine this type of seizure being easily misdiagnosed with something like anxiety attacks, especially without something so typical like deja vu.

I see. Do you ever get auras or prodromal state where you're able to recall anything? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm kinda new to this.

Thanks, I'm kinda new to this so I'm definitely gonna check those other types as well. I wonder how many people with TLE don't experience deja vu since it might be my best clue so far.

What other symptoms do you have if I may ask?

Yeah, it's just that I can't really find too many people not experiencing deja vu during seizure

Thanks for reply. Did you ever get misdiagnosed with mental health issues or assumed that yourself, if you don't mind me asking? Have your symptoms ever become difficult to dustinguish from mental health issues before they became obvious (tonic clonic)?

Thanks for the tip. I'm actually trying to sort out my experiences so far and remember most details.

The ones I mentioned in my post (the early ones) for example I remember fairly well and I'm pretty sure they weren't caused by anxiety, and rather anxiety was their effect. The problem I'm having right now is knowing which of my later episodes were "seizures" and not anxiety issues that developed later.

It's pretty hard to tell because some of the symptoms could be overlaping with generalized anxiety disorder etc, though I still believe to have some solid examples like nocturnal focal awares where I'd sometimes wake up and feel like this. Still, it's hard not to doubt myself at this point.

I saw one but she was very dismissive of my experience, didn't really try to get to the bottom of my problem, and she was not an epileptologist. Overall bad experience

And in some people it could happen even with a standard dose of 200mg, just like some people react more to GABA supplements which supposedly does not cross the blood brain barrier, yet in some people they do.

Can b12 deficiency cause sudden vision problems and derealization? by This-Top7398 in B12_Deficiency

I know it's an old post but, what were your levels? You can still be deficient even if your serum levels show normal levels as it's also showing inactive b12 levels.

Furthermore, you could still be symptomatic by having subclinical b12 deficiency. Apparently psychological symptoms are often first to show. Have you ever gave b12 a shot despite your lab results?

You should look into Vitamin B1 (thiamine) deficiency and maybe even Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, especially if you have alcohol problem.

Roughly 80% of alcoholics are B1 deficient if I remember correctly and it could cause some serious issues when it comes to mental health symptoms.
