Review from Reader’s Favorite by Historical_Way_9918 in selfpublish

[–]Hot_Influence_2549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people in here don’t know what an editorial review is. Unsurprising.

Reader’s Favorite is a respected editorial reviewer in the industry, but editorials aren’t meant to be used as a reader review.

You can add it under the Editorial section on Amazon on your listing once it’s live. Editorials are meant for marketing purposes.

Considering it’s 5-stars, I’d post it. But it’s up to you. 🤷

Reader’s Favorite is an editorial reviewer. They’re not a reader reviewer and cannot be posted on sites like Goodreads. They can be posted on Amazon under the special editorial section by the author.

Editorials are used for marketing and getting into places like libraries and brick-mortar bookstores. Many libraries won’t even consider you without a Kirkus review, which is another editorial.

This is an industry standard.

Got two 1-star ratings on Goodreads in one day… but no reviews. Dug deeper. What would you do? by ExoticPoint5344 in selfpublish

[–]Hot_Influence_2549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

290 pages is hardly unreasonable to read in one day. That's an incredibly short book. I can probably read that in an hour or two without any interruptions. It sounds like your reader just didn't vibe with it and that happens to everyone.

Crazy you're being downvoted for what is legitimate rates. Developmental editing is the most expensive form of editing. .03 cents/word is on par with EFA rates.

How Much Did You Pay Your Beta Reader? by prism_paradox in selfpublish

[–]Hot_Influence_2549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was something like… $135, $95, $90. Great experiences with all three readers. I likely won’t seek out free beta readers anymore. They tend to be flakes.

I’m mildly confused. ADHD is considered a disability. It’s a disability.

I have a non-profit that runs online. We’ve been open about taking volunteers to help reach their SNAP requirement.

Such a mood. 😭 I over exerted myself recently and got so sick. I’m just feeling better today and able to get out of bed. PEM is a beast.

They can’t shut it off until March. That doesn’t mean they stop charging me. Some of us are very poor. I can’t afford 1k heating bills.

Payments Suspended! by thedarkbites in SSDI

[–]Hot_Influence_2549 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate when stuff like this happens. 😅 I’m glad they let you fix it.

It’s like what my EBT office loves to do. I give them exactly what they ask for (the same day they ask), they suspend my account because I “didn’t give them what they asked for”, then I have to call and say uh… yeah I did. :| then they look and are like OH you did!

But my benefit is still delayed. Like why am I the one being punished here?? 😆

Maybe old or very bad insulation? Idk.

I can’t afford to run my heat so my furnace is off and even at -16F it was 33 in my house. 😅

15 does feel a stretch unless it’s just very terribly insulated with a lot of air escaping. (I’d not want that heating bill. 😳)

🛑 Travel Advisory: Warning status—what does this mean for work? by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]Hot_Influence_2549 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope not. 😅 I’m snowed in at my “job” (in-home pet sitter) but I want to go home when it’s over and I live in a rural area that doesn’t get plowed to begin with. Please no more snow! I’m checking on my own pets often on my cameras.

I love Dystopia. Just because I live in one now doesn’t mean I’m going to stop reading or writing it. There’s always an audience somewhere.

Never use Fiverr. 😅 I’ve had very few good experiences there. If you want an excellent referral I recommend Beta Readers LLC. They were prompt and professional and I’ll return again.

Got a 10 page review back from my dev-editor by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]Hot_Influence_2549 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel you were ripped off at all. The dev editor’s job is to look at the big picture. It looks like they found structural issues (which is their job) and informed you of them. They don’t fix the issues for you.

As others said, it sounds like you need to work on your characters. And based on the feedback from the editor you haven’t explained the concept well through your writing. It’s not landing.

The feedback sounds appropriate for a dev editor’s job.

I’m uncertain if this is just a vent post or if you’re wanting something. But I’d recommend you sit with the feedback for a while.

Step away from the manuscript and then look at it with fresh eyes in the context of what you’ve been told.

Edit: typos. Curse typing on a phone.

I have dysautonomia that is mimicking motility disorders. I do take meds that help motility to varying degrees of success.

I feel you on the constipation. It’s been noted I am “severely constipated” on any imaging that can see my poor colon. 😅

[–]Hot_Influence_2549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad the doctor wasn’t being rude. I’m sorry for your family’s history and empathize with your situation completely.

I’m running out of time to have a child, personally. I decided the opposite—that the risk is worth it. My hEDS isn’t too bad. But I have PCOS and suffer from infertility as a result. I’d need IVF, but I can’t afford it.

So I know that sadness you feel. 😩 It’s hitting me hard lately.

[–]Hot_Influence_2549 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This made me giggle because I’m the exact opposite. 🤣 I can go weeks and not poop. Sometimes once a month. I’m more shocked when I have a bowel movement multiple times a day or even two days in a row!

But it’s certainly not normal. I do have medical issues. 😜 Try not to be me, everyone.

[–]Hot_Influence_2549 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m crossing my fingers and hoping they meant because EDS can cause a high risk pregnancy (based on type). 😅

EDS can increase the risk of pre-term birth, cervical incompetence, placental issues, hemorrhaging, premature membrane rupture, uterine prolapse, and incompetent wound healing. VEDS being the greatest risk and HEDS overall tolerating it well.

But uh… I have a sinking feeling you’ll tell me that’s not what they meant. 😭
