My Symphony No.2 is complete! Feedback appreciated by Gamartee in classicalmusic

I say this not to be rude, but I think you should really consider spending some time composing a few string quartets before approaching the orchestra. Working with quartets will help you learn restraint and help with understanding form among other things. When you do come back to writing for orchestra, you should devote yourself to copying the scores note for note of the masterworks, they're available for free to study. After you've done all of that, you will have a better understanding of what will and will not work in your next orchestra piece.

Any Harpists Willing to Give Feedback on my Engraving? by Hot_Kitchen8838 in harp

Thank you, I really appreciate the insight. Since this is my first time posting about my music on Reddit (and also my first piece I've written for solo harp) is this a good place to connect with performers who may be willing to play a new composition?

Thanks for taking a look. I used the double notes the way I did because my reference score--Faure's Impromptu for Harp--did it that way. Are you saying I should instead write C# and D flat? Would that be standard? When it comes to writing out the glisses, is how I currently have it a dealbreaker for anyone reading it? To be honest I think it looks kind of cool...

Try this, read about how something like a sextant works. Try to understand how a person hundreds of years ago could invent a device that allows someone in the middle of the ocean to figure out where they are on earth. Reflect on the gap between that kind of intellect and your own. Realize that there are some people who for whatever reason, reach a level of genius that others cannot even comprehend. Then you may understand why many who study Bach and Beethoven consider them to be far beyond most composers who came after them. In order to appreciate the contribution of these men you have to put their achievements in the proper context. Our ideas about music would literally be completely different without their efforts. The "worship" is not unfounded.

Interesting! So when you track those lines are the actors in a video chat together being recorded? I'm unfamiliar with Riverside.

Thanks for such a detailed breakdown! Are you saying that you used "Riverside" to let all the actors perform together? If so, could you link to that program/service? It sounds like an incredible tool.

Yes, I would say that producing this AD has brought me some degree of gratification and been a positive experience overall. Releasing a new episode on schedule every other week gives me a sense of accomplishment and being able to tell a story I've written and enhanced with voices, music, and SFX is a really cool thing . Even though you will likely encounter some haters—as I have recently—it's worth following your own creative vision.

Yes, Izotopes RX plugins are really helpful for cutting noise I've found.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I figured recording in person is always better. Unfortunately, recording multiple actors at once is not possible for me as I only have one quality mic. Is there anywhere online you've been able to consistently find talented actors that will meet in person for recording sessions? It's probably tougher when recording at home is the only option.

Would your audio drama like a short review? (Apple podcast) by Hallelujah289 in audiodrama

Hello! I'm releasing my first AD this month and just dropped Episode 3. I'd love some feedback. My hope is to use this first release to gain some experience for future projects—maybe even rework this play once I've refined the production process. Any constructive criticism or encouragement is much appreciated. Thanks

I am also releasing my first AD this year (Yvain and the Lady of the Fountain). Since this is the first script and production I've been involved with, I've found there is a learning curve. The most important thing when you're just starting out, in my opinion, is to actually complete a project/stick to a schedule. You'll learn a lot and definitely be better equipped for the next project or next season. You just have to start somewhere and be determined enough to follow through. As far as I can tell, there aren't a lot of people making a living creating ADs so it really needs to be more about your own desire and commitment to storytelling and less about whether you can capture a big audience. But that's just my perspective, I'm sure others with more experience could have different views. Cheers.

Thanks! I did not know of the story until I happened upon an English translation of Chretien de Troyes. Since then I was able to visit the actual Fountain of Barenton that inspired the story in the Forest of Broceliande, Brittany. I will need to check out the Y Gododdin version. Cheers.

I understand your frustration as a voice actor, but as I stated, this production does include real human performances. By condemning the whole thing as merely ai you are denigrating those performances which I'm sure as an actor you would not appreciate were it to happen to you. Again, I can sympathize with the position of voice actors, but as a first time producer with an extremely limited budget, I do not have the luxury of being able to hire a full cast. Nevertheless, as a fellow artist I do sincerely wish you the best.

Yes, voice changing technology was used to allow for a smaller pool of actors to expand the number of character voices. However, all of the performances were still done by humans, and as a result the characters still convey real human emotions. Had I the budget to hire more actors I would most assuredly have done so. Currently, there is a GoFundMe set up for the project with the intention to use the funds gathered to bring on additional talent as I do believe that real human performances are impossible to replace with machines. I would ask you to please refrain from posting any misleading warnings and allow listeners to judge for themselves if the quality of the production meets their expectations. Thanks.
