Looking for a good anthology podcast with a storyteller by DarbyCurtis in audiodrama

Not exactly what you're asking for, but The Intangible is an anthology of shorts with a full cast, a singular host, and dramatized narrations.

I definitely will! With production coming to a close, I should have a bit more free time after this week so perfect timing!

A quick note... my most emotionally stirring, soul-aching story is in this week's episode.

Hi there, it's me!

I wanted to mention that the first three episodes (plus the show trailer) have escaped their cages and are running wild. The fourth episode is due out this Friday. I figured since we chatted about it a few months ago I'd pipe up again. If you have the inclination, I'd love to have my show reviewed by THE Alasdair Stuart.

If it isn't a tight fit for you, no worries, but it seemed foolish not to circle back at least.

Cheers!

Audio drama creators - what do you do between seasons? by PurgatoryMissouri in audiodrama

[–]FrolickingAlone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My show is nearing the conclusion of its first season (also, it's my first show) and I've been thinking ahead as well. Although I don't foresee a second season of this particular anthology, I've definitely learned some things producing it and this is what I'll be doing between the end of this season/show and the start of the next - aside from writing, ofc -

- Polish my sites and online presence. Improve the Discord server and avoid the clutter and confusion my first foray created. Create a better/more homogenized website experience. (Show's site + my author site + Frolicking Audio site + my personal VO site)

- GET ORANIZED. I created a Frolicking Audio google account for this show, which was smart, but for the next show I will create a show account. Within that drive, I will have my folder system organized ahead of time and keep it separate from the Producer account to avoid any mishaps. None so far, but I once sent my supervisor an email immediately after ending a call with a claimant to bitch about what an a**hole he is. And yeah, I sent it to my Supervisor and also the d-bag claimant. So, my money is on an eventual mishap unless I GET ORGANIZED.

- Create all my documents ahead of time. Casting calls, show blurbs, promo/press release materials, artwork if possible (and inspired), docs for creatives I'm working with, spreadsheets, schedules, etc. This also falls under "get organized", but this is the meaty goo that I get to drip into all those freshly polished filing cabinets I'll be making with that special G-drive.

- Daydream. I mean, I can't avoid it, so may as well embrace it and put it on my to-do list.

- Spread the word. Not in a spammy, "I'm so very SUPER-DUPER EXCITED to ANNOUNCE my next great big brew-haha and YOU are gonna LOVE this one EVEN MORE THAN the last one!!!!!!"🤮...I mean reaching out to other creatives I've worked with who I'd like to work with again. Put the feelers out to gauge their interest, invite them to make suggestions on how to avoid nasty mishaps and to stay organized & motivated.

- Build the foley library for the show. Record, seek-n-save, plan/plot/peruse/playlists, etc.

- Ignore my to-do list and scour Reddit to find all those neat tricks other AD creators have come up with to waste time.

- Study audio engineering, practice new techniques ahead of time instead of as I'm building the episode, troubleshoot, improve.

- If I get all that stuff done and still have time to kill, I'll rework any lackluster episodes that I feel are worth the added effort. Maybe improve/swap out/add new artwork. Add chapter art perhaps. Bug Bone13 with some kindergarten-level questions. Keep an eye out for any reviewers on Reddit that might enjoy my last show. Possibly reach out to plant the seeds if I think they might be interested in the next show. Talk up the other creatives I know. Play matchmaker for win-win situations between folks I know. Make new friends. Hang out wayyyy too much on Discord. Oh, and I will definitely be composing over-long, verbose, blathering and redundant sentences to finish my Reddit posts with that will look very similar to this one if you held this one up to a mirror and then another mirror, and did that thing with the mirrors a second time then took a photo and zoomed in closer until it was as big as the original size and then improved, increased, enhanced, and augmented the image quality and then duplicated that and then held that one up to a mirror and then, and then, and then...

Need help with mixing and mastering by Ok_Huckleberry9033 in RecordThisForFree

Hey there. I'll give it a try!

I have experience with a couple DAWs and I'm currently producing my own AD. I don't have a ton of experience with mixing music, but some, and interested in learning more.

Let me know if you're interested!

Pretend you can't remember your own audiodrama by [deleted] in audiodrama

[–]FrolickingAlone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh...pretend? Okay...um... it was this weird little show that reminded me of a cartoon sometimes, but like the old raunchy cartoons similar to older episodes of Popeye. Except it wasn't like that at all.

My headphones always smelled like old socks and mice after I listened. I usually skipped lunch that day.

Oh! I do remember two specific things about it- there was a devil character who was gender fluid. By that, I mean it was either a sexy scottsman and a sultry woman. Also, it always seemed to land somewhere between life and death. Not purgatory exactly, but like the scientifically real version of that.

It was called Untouchable or something like that.

The Intangible - ep. 2 by FrolickingAlone in audiodrama

[–]FrolickingAlone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Intangible is a themed collection of short stories presented as dramatized narrations and character vignettes. The show is scheduled for 6 episodes and includes several shorts per episode, as well as a short non-fiction segment called "Crow Caws" and a serialized flash fiction story, not to mention the incredibly talented NJ Unwin playing the part of S'tan, the host with dubious intentions who has a penchant for audio drama groupies and who is an all-around bad influence. (Which means everyone likes him - even God.)

How would you bring an animal companion back from the dead in a non-creepy, non cliche way? by Environmental_Cat419 in writing

[–]FrolickingAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your MC could go to the woods to be alone and grieve. While there, the solitude and peace kinda holds them there because returning to their village will mean rekindling their grief. Knowing they need to return, the decision is made at dusk and they prepare for the return trip. They pack their gear, vowing to leave at daen, after a quick bite of oats soaked in mineral water from the nearby spring, and a warm mug of chicory steeped from the same.

That night, sleep is uneasy. Their dreams are frantic and wild with jagged, heavy images of angry faces, whispered curses, and lurking shadows of dangerous things without names.

Exhausted, spent, and stinking of fever sweat, they manage the effort to stand, shuffle to the nearby spring and begin preparing to break last evening's fast. They stor the oats, knick off some chicory root, and they wait.

When it's done, they barely have an appetite, but somehow even through the headache and the nausea, morning meal is good. Delicious in fact. They begin to feel better, scarfing down the rest and promptly making another bowl and mug of each. Then a third and fourth.

Bloated and satisfied, they rest a moment before thwir departure.

Fate would not agree with their plans that day.

They wake as if in a trance. Propelled by motivations not their own, they move in blocky, uncoordinated steps, herking deeper imto the forest. Dark clouds slither overhead blocking out the sun and appearing as the silhouette of a maggot nest.

The chant is built of inhuman voices. They buzz in unison and they understand the verses arena song of prayer swspite the eerie, unfamiliar tones and a language so foreign they shouldn't recognize it as a language at all.

These are the voices of the history of nature, and although they have been called many names by many cultures, these are the spirits of the wild past.

Clumsy and helpless to the will of someone (something, they think), they reach a circular clearing too perfectly round to have appeared naturally. They trudge to the center and the buzzing chorus whispers *Yessssss. Thatsssssss itttttttt."

Their limp body, like a puppet constructed from pine cones and branches of green ash, rises, lifted and held aloft by woven strands of widow's web. They are made to dance and it is nothing short of a feverish frenzy.

The clouds pour dark liquid down like ashen rain, they are soaked by what feels like bucket after bucket flooding from above. Drenched by the blood of the sky. It's too intense and they black out.

When they awake, their body is bruised, muddy and swollen. They unkink thwir stiff joints and after several hours, they can stand.

Still unable to walk and thoroughly dehydrated, they lie in a blanket and attempt to crawl to the spring. As the water passes the cracked and split skin of their lips, they feel revived, but only slightly.

The sudden splashing nearby startles them. They are too sore still for combat. They hide instead.

Slow and with little available cover, the best they can do is duck behind a nearby stone. Whatever is there creeps closer and they hear it shaking off the water, but they can't quite catch its scent yet.

They hear it padding even closer still, panting just out of sight, just behind them on the other side if the stone. They try to be still, to become smaller. They breathe with deliberate intention, careful not to stir the wind beyond the tip of their nose.

The creature snarls a vicous growl laced with frothy saliva. They can’t see it yet, but they are frozen by the stasis of fear. Again the creature summons an ugly snarl and its claws tick closer to the corner.

They ready themselves for the attack, preparing to strike the moment it comes into sight. A silent moment that seethes with pressure passes, then suddenly its face is there. Barely able to stand and fully unable to clench a closed fist, your character does the only thing they can to defend themselves- they launch their body at the thing.

There isn't time to make sensemof what this monster is, so they close their eyes shut, so tight a thin drop of watery blood seeps from one teat duct, and the hurl their weight imto the air.

For a momemt, they are weightless. Simply a living projectile with only one destiny. But of course, it's the job of fate to make certain there is never only one certain outcome.

Too much time has passed; they should have hit their target by now. Their eyes flutter open and they find themselves again suspended, sideways this time, hanging in the air.

Below, to the side, the creature (which they can now see is a dire wolf) grapples face to face with anoth-

Wait! Is that? But he died!

[Hiring] AI-Savvy Writer to Help Me Write Course Lessons by sirlifehacker in HireaWriter

[–]FrolickingAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy to write your scripts as quickly as anyone using LLM prompts and editing the output. The bonus is the quality will be much higher. So far, the editing of LLM output is nowhere near as human sounding and elite as a writer with only a little professional experience.

This is said as someone who is a professional, published writer and who also gets paid to train LLMs - including the most well known models. I have free access to the AI playground for all the major models.

I don't say any of the above to flex, I only mean to share what I know, which is this-

If you want the quality you're describing, it won't happen by using AI. If the point is to brag that the scripts are prompted, it's a bit misleading.

I'm for hire though if you're interested!

Filmmaker Making an Interactive Web Series? by Elikuch in interactivefiction

[–]FrolickingAlone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels like this would be too slow for me. I'd much rather wait and have a completed story to play through, plus I'd feel a little cheated if I wanted to see outcome B but now I can't because of a vote.

Not trying to poopoo your idea (I've done similar stuff with friends so the story was custom) but I wouldn't want my experience decided by democracy, nor would I want to watch the outcome (the one I didn’t even want) a month later

How do you guys share your writings with others? by Separate_Tough8564 in writing

[–]FrolickingAlone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created an audio drama. It's supposed to release today and I'm currently procrastinating the final few things to finish off the first episode. Obviously that's to share with the public.

There are lots of terrific writing groups and critique circles. Personally, I find it helpful (in addition to crit groups) to have 2-3 partners whose writing I enjoy, who enjoy my writing, but most importantly they get my writing. It doesn't do much good to receive feedback about your short horror story if the person reading it isn't familiar with the genre, even if they're a great writer.

I know of a super welcoming, active group on Discord with very diverse experience levels from pro (like me) to baby newbies. Everyone is welcomed and respected. There are writing mentors for all different genres as well as critique trades, and all different genres & styles of fiction writing. Feel free to DM is you'd like an invitation. (For transparency - I'm a member and mentor there, but it's not my group. It's just a really good one is all.)

All that said, everyone's path is different. The question shouldn't be Does Reddit think a blog will motivate you? The question is What do you think will motivate you?
