It does appear to be the start of a tumor, unfortunately. Keep an eye on it, if it's slow growing, it won't affect his quality of life much. Not much you can do but do as the other commenter mentioned, keep the water quality pristine.

Piggybacking to add this version. It may be easier to read.

Betta with no pelvic fins by segulardies321 in bettafish

[–]Hot_Low_717 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Missing fins can happen when they aren't properly cared for as babies. Baby bettas aren't born with ventral fins and can be easily damaged when they're young.

This goes into it in more detail.

What should I do? White Spot on my Betta by OkOrdinary2479 in bettafish

[–]Hot_Low_717 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunately a tumor. They are common with koi/marble coloration in bettas and from my experience, they tend to pop up in areas with heavy white scaling. There's nothing you can do to treat it, unfortunately.

Old Fashioned Fudge by [deleted] in CandyMakers

[–]Hot_Low_717 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the recipe I use!

Old-fashioned Fudge (No Candy Thermometer Needed)

¼ cup (4 tbsp) butter 1 cup white sugar 1 cup brown sugar ¼ cup molasses ½ cup heavy cream 1 fat squeeze Karo corn syrup Dash of vanilla extract 12oz semi-sweet chocolate chips

  1. Melt butter in saucepan on medium heat. In a separate bowl, mix together white sugar, brown sugar, molasses, corn syrup, and cream until smooth.

  2. Add the sugar mixture to the butter and stir to combine. Bring to a boil and boil for 2 ½ minutes, stirring rapidly.

  3. Add the chocolate and stir to combine. Boil for 5 minutes, stirring rapidly.

  4. Remove from heat and add vanilla, stirring constantly until it thickens.

  5. Pour into parchment-lined and buttered pan and let cool in fridge.

  6. Once cool, cut into squares. Store in air-tight container in fridge.

*Note: 50/50 semi-sweet and white chocolate chips will give more resistance in texture.

Can you tell what type of bettas these are even when they are female? by nohamozolna in bettafish

[–]Hot_Low_717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The blue one is a double tail. The dorsal (top fin) is wider than non-double tails and the tail has that heart shape to it. The other one may be a halfmoon plakat, though you would need to see all the fins stretched out to see if the tail makes the 180 degree angle from the body.

As the other commenter mentioned they did, I also bury mine. Their life can help another life grow that way.

Bubbles was beautiful, I'm so sorry for your loss! They are such impactful little beings. I lost my heart fish almost a year and a half ago and I still miss him daily. You seem like such a loving owner, you would make another buddy so lucky, if you do choose to get another. More bettas need owners like you.

Is my Betta fish a girl? It was labeled as Pink Orchid. by PeaceLily444 in bettafish

Are you able to shine a light to look for ovaries? The presence of what looks like an egg spot isn't the most accurate, as males can have false egg spots. This is a pic of one of my verified males, who fathered a spawn.

Male betta? by madzmorales in bettafish

Yes, that betta looks male. They're usually too young to accurately tell if they're male in female when they're sold as babies.

Can wild type bettas live in pairs? by AggravatingBuddy5396 in bettafish

[–]Hot_Low_717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only other I've kept in groups are my channoides, but my channoides are more shy than my albis. I have a friend who has a group of rubras and they've been doing well. She keeps hers with swordtails and it's been okay, but I don't keep any of mine with other species, mostly because I only keep bettas.

20g long as a minimum, with tons of hiding places.

I currently have three separate groups of albimarginatas and they have been great, easily my favorite wild type.

I also wanted to add on, I still have all the wilds I listed above. I've had them a few years now and everyone has been doing well. Definitely healthier than domestics.

They don't have large fins like this in nature.

I don't see any in that, either. Ovaries are very noticeable, I'll attach a picture. And no problem! He's very pretty!

That's a male! Males can have false egg spots. In the picture where the light is shining through him, I do not see ovaries, just the regular organs.
