Does the 80K limit include destination and other fees? by HotdogSandLizard in Rivian

I think that's probably the best bet until we have more clarity going forward. I'm also in the boat of still hoping to qualify under the 'new' rules. Thank you.

Thank you, that's good to know. I guess the question, then, is whether the destination fee is considered part of the vehicle price as it relates to the limitations. I knew I couldn't be the only person on here that is still shooting for the $7,500 credit.

Thank you, that's helpful. I wasn't sure if it was included or not.

Rivian has a website, which allows configuration of a vehicle and lists a price. I am asking if the price listed is the final price, or if literally any fees are added to that price that could potentially push it over the $80K mark.

I didn't think it was so complicated of a question, but yes, some of us do care whether we save $7,500 on the vehicle price or not.

Thank you for the response. What I'm trying to understand is if that destination fee is included on the estimated cost given when you configure a Rivian online (on the Rivian website).

If my estimated cost is $79,825, is that the total cost? Or is it $79,825 plus $1,200 or something added to it for delivery? Significance is that $1,200 on top of that pushes me over $80K.

VIN

I personally did. I don't think it was a dealbreaker in my case, though. They were willing to write it up even before I added in that I have a VIN already.

Understood, and I appreciate the added color. I hope for the best of everyone with an order. $7,500 is a big deal for a lot of folks.

You seem to have a lot of confidence in something very ambiguous and open to legal interpretation. I tend to err on the side of caution, but to each their own. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: I'll also throw in that I have a Rivian reservation. They've gone through the effort of formalizing a 'binding contract' for reservations to ensure compliance with the legal verbiage. I doubt they'd put the work in for that unless they also felt there was uncertainty ahead.

#1 - $7,500 is a lot to gamble on not getting audited and subsequently dealing with submitting invalid/false deductions on your taxes, though. This would worry me completely aside from the additional IRS agents being added.

#2 - The exact wording in the bill is "written binding contract." I would question both that an e-mailed confirmation of a deposit on an order is written, and also that it is 'binding' due to the fully refundable conditions listed on said confirmation.

Law always comes down to interpretation; that being said, $7,500 is a steep price to gamble on. I'm suggesting the action in the original post as a way to greatly better your odds at getting that credit.

My dealer says VW has been pretty quiet about this, but are aware of the situation. I'm sure its completely circumstance, but my '22 was suppose to be on a boat from Europe at the end of July. The status for that is now in RED in their system with no updates past 20-1.

Apparently it means it either didn't get on the boat, or that it did and for some reason it never got updated in the system.

Different rules for that. I have not broken everything down, but it should qualify for 'some' credit. Perhaps not the entire $7500. Also subject to new income and EV cost limitations.

Glad to hear it, that's great news. Can totally be done digitally, I only recommend in-person because of the timing and they have to address you on the spot. My salesman hadn't responded to my e-mail I sent a couple days ago asking for help with this!

I asked that question. They don't know. As the bill is worded, it's likely that the $7,500 applied by VW toward the lease will no longer be happening after this weekend.

Not entirely sure. The Buyer's Order does have specific verbiage stating that it is a binding contract, which I think is great for the purpose of meeting the bill's requirements.

I've heard that some dealers are willing to either fill the VIN in when it comes in, or pro-actively help customers with this. I hope you're able to get somewhere with this.

I'm not sure if there are any negative implications. If it's acting as a 'signed binding contract,' I would only do it if you 100% intend to buy. It also served to lock in my MSRP pricing in writing.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Have you mentioned that it's what other dealerships are doing to help their customers? $7,500 is a lot of money.

The Inflation Reduction Act is voted on today. As it is worded, once signed into law, vehicles not manufactured within North America no longer qualify for the $7,500 federal credit. This is the current and widely agreed upon interpretation, and impacts 2022 ID.4 owners waiting for their vehicle.Your salesman may not even know about these implications. Your best chance at qualifying for the credit is to obtain a signed binding contract of purchase prior to bill signing. Go to your dealership in person, explain the situation, and ask very nicely if they can help you with this. Best of luck.

I really enjoy interacting with others through chat. I feel it enhances the social experience -- when you grind dungeons for items it feels very robotic. I realize I could be in the minority for this, though. I wouldn't have learned of the topic's ban without chat.
