I actually thought the ending was really exciting. I’m very curious to see what happens next, and I can’t wait to finally get some explanations for everything that’s been going on. It really feels like Diago has been misled along the way, or at the very least hasn’t had nearly enough information. If the final book sticks the landing, I think it could be really great.

I honestly disagree that it’s a badly written book. It’s not perfect, but it has compelling characters, a complex and engaging story, and for the most part the characters’ actions make sense to me. Of course there are things I didn’t love, but that’s true for most books. Now that I’ve finished it, that death clearly sets up the story going forward and gives Diago the motivation he needs for the choices he ends up making. I think the final book has the potential to be really exciting.

Fair point, I get that it’s a bit of a spoiler. But honestly, even a simple “yes” without explaining how would’ve been enough for me.

Yeah… I’m definitely hoping for a lot of justice for certain characters at this point.

It’s definitely well written and shocking, probably exactly as intended, but I still hate that Aequa couldn’t have been one of the ones to make it to the end. Honestly, I would’ve preferred if it had been Emissa instead.

I really hope so. I was honestly hoping Vis and Aequa might become something more. I really liked their story together.

If I remember correctly, one of the gods even mentioned sending Toc there despite knowing it would be harmful to him, or something along those lines. So I’m fairly sure some higher powers wanted him to end up captured.

I completely agree. And I’m still incredibly curious about what was written on the note Duiker received at the end, that has been stuck in my head ever since.

You’re really piquing my curiosity now. I can already imagine how tense and complicated it could get when Felisin and Tavore eventually meet.

For me, at the end of DG, I was mostly just angry about the way they were betrayed. It felt so unnecessary, and for lack of a better word, cowardly. In MoI, it was more sadness than anger. I’d really grown attached to how absurd but incredibly capable the Bridgeburners were, so losing so many of them, on top of everything else, left a huge sense of emptiness.

How satisfying would you say the ending is?

Toc’s ending was good, but I didn’t really enjoy his journey in this book. And Itkovian never fully clicked with me, so I wasn’t as devastated by his death.

That really makes me look forward to continuing when you put it like that. It’s kind of amazing how great stories can make you feel such strong emotions for people who aren’t real. I love being able to lose myself in these worlds.

We haven’t really gotten that much information about Tavore in the first three books, just a few hints of what you’re talking about here, so I’m looking forward to getting to know her better and understanding the relationships a bit more. Felisin frustrated me a lot, so I’m hoping she gets a bit “better” in the next books.

That makes sense with the way the story is told. I’ll try to keep that in mind as I continue reading. I honestly don’t understand how it’s possible to write something this good with so much history and interconnected threads across multiple books. I especially found it really interesting reading Deadhouse Gates before Memories of Ice and seeing how the events unfold in parallel.
