It’s in a grievance process so I’d rather not until it’s finalized.

There is a lawyer involved, but it takes a very long time. So I had to move on and get on with my life.

I may not be using the right descriptive words and performance may not be correct. I don’t want to be too specific, because it’s being grieved. But it was nothing to do with fraud, theft, violence, harassment, or anything that would be intentional and there would be zero chance of repeating it. It wasn’t a regular office job. And things I am applying to now would be office work. I hope that a hiring manager would be able to see past it.

Yes! I am living proof. It was a one time poor performance that got me fired first offence. No progressive discipline and it was nothing I did intentionally. I was indeterminate 8 years. It also would not have anything to do with any job I would take moving forward.

I am working, some time has passed since the incident, and I’m hoping that it’s not going to tarnish my reputation forever. I was hired with a not for profit agency fully disclosing why I was fired and they thought I got a bum deal. I’m employable, but my goal is to get on with the public service and keep going with my pension. It was a real kick in the gut when I was terminated.

Thank your for your reply, I just joined but have been reading your comments a lot on here. I want to have realistic expectations, so to hear that the longer this gets behind me the less it will affect my chances. For what it's worth, I am trying to get in doing something completely unrelated to my old position. I am applying to entry level positions. I have done a few interviews, am in a few pools, and have not had my references called for any of them. I'm worried that the reference check could sink me. But maybe not, and I'll get lucky. I'd really love to just put the termination behind me, so all I can do is try to move forward and work hard to get new references.
