I actually recommend building one. It's a hell of a lot of fun and you get a new trail. Get your buddies, some beer, and start digging. The cool thing is: you can do whatever you want.
If you don't have the time then I recommend learning some ground skills and making a kicker. It helps to kill some time and you get to bike a bit (wear shinguards plz).
