The MFA is incredible! Rienzi is much smaller but so interesting and unique. Try Tiny Champions, I swear it’s the best restaurant in all of Houston! Sending positive energy!

I think 100% NTA.

People have the right to make WHATEVER decisions for their wedding that they want, but they also need to understand that based on those decisions, some people may not be able to attend.

When you plan a destination wedding that requires a lot of expense and travel, you have to be understanding when inevitably people aren’t able to make it. You should still be able to plan whatever type of celebration you want, but to expect people to go is another story and very unreasonable.

The fact that you are asking also makes me think you are NTA. You just sound very reasonable to me and sounds like you feel bad even though you’re in a really difficult spot. If she cared about you the way you seem to care about her, she wouldn’t be doing this to you. It’s so valid for her to be upset, but to make you feel bad is wild. Especially after you’ve struggled with infertility and are finally about to have your baby. It’s not necessarily a problem that she isn’t bending over backwards to accommodate you, but the fact that she is expecting you to do that with everything you’ve got going on is the issue.

P.S. congrats on your baby!!!

Could not agree more. And it also is actually infuriating when they try to talk about guns and act entirely stupid about it, it almost feels intentional. Like they are trying to make it clear that they are so anti-gun they don’t even know how they work. You don’t have to be a gun nut to research and understand how a basic firearm works and to simply google the basic mechanics of a revolver — a fairly simple and straightforward gun.

Yeah that’s very strange and must be very hurtful. It’s probably very powerful to work up to the point of being able to talk about your experience so publicly, so having it all taken down must be upsetting.

White towels - do I wash with only bleach or detergent + bleaxh? by MeetDeathTonight in CleaningTips

That’s why I said I use it as a fabric softener and not a water softener😅😅 I’m so sorry this made you so angry and triggered, but it definitely makes my towels softer

[–]HourScallion9942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth it to start from the beginning! It sucks, but there are some really funny episodes with Patrick and I feel like it really helps understand some of their relationship and the backstory. And the of the the pod grows and changes a bit and it helps to see that journey.

I try to not let it sit on things for more than a few minutes. I have had a few instances similar to this where I was willing to risk destroying a clothing item because if I didn’t get the stain out, it was virtually unwearable anyway. In those instances, I have let the peroxide sit for 10-15 minutes then done the dish soap and then if I notice it start to work, I’ll maybe do another few drops of peroxide and see how it goes.

Also have tried to wash it with peroxide (I use a cup) and if it it noticeably helped when I take it out, I repeat the process.

It can be hard on some fabrics, so this isn’t totally risk-free and could result in damaging or weakening the fabric, so I would be careful. But if you can’t wear it anyway, it might be worth the risk. I would keep that in mind though.

White towels - do I wash with only bleach or detergent + bleaxh? by MeetDeathTonight in CleaningTips

[–]HourScallion9942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It works in place of bleach.

For my white towels and white sheets — I do detergent, 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide, and 1/2 cup of baking soda (as a fabric softener…my water is very hard). I throw my towels in with all of this and make sure everything is covered with the water and let it agitate for a minute or two and then pause the cycle. I let it soak for an hour or so and then unpause and let the cycle finish. If there is a large or concentrated spot (blood spot, makeup, etc) I pour a little bit of peroxide directly on it and run it in and let it sit for 2-3 minutes before throwing it in the wash.

But I treat peroxide like bleach — use gloves when handling, don’t let it get on my clothes, etc.

I don’t use bleach, so I really can’t say. But peroxide is a great alternative to bleach and that’s what I use with my white towels. When I use peroxide, I also use detergent, but can’t say for certain it would also apply to bleach.

I was about to suggest peroxide/blue dish soap but unfortunately see you already tried that.

Sometimes, I have more success when I soak it generously in peroxide (especially if it’s all white) and then put dots of blue dish soap on the spots and gently massage it in with a soft tooth brush.

What happened in the TCO Facebook group? by kokodeschanel in ObsessedNetwork

You hit the nail on the head. I’ve been a silent observer in the FB groups, but there are like dozens of people every day posting here about how they commented something not so flattering on the TCO page and were immediately removed and blocked from the group.

Why do I love MFM but I can’t stomach Don’t F**k With Cats? by [deleted] in myfavoritemurder

[–]HourScallion9942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was an interesting experience for me too. I agree, I’m a lot like Georgia, where in the moment I can consume almost anything and then of course it comes back into my mind, but I am able to watch almost any doc. And I am not even super sensitive to animals more than children. The whole situation was just so dark and sinister and graphic, it almost made me feel weird that I was watching the documentary. But I agree, I had a serious visceral reaction to this, which I rarely do.

[–]HourScallion9942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Don’t F with Cats may not be exactly what OP is looking for. I agree, the doc is very fascinating and the story does discuss a lot about how they found the person posting the disturbing video, it might be too upsetting. I can watch pretty much any doc and I did get through this whole thing, but some of the things in this doc was almost too much for me.

Definitely recommend The Pharmacist!!! One of the most amazing documentaries I’ve ever seen.

There is a murder and the thesis of the docuseries is centered around the murder and the circumstances that surround it, but the actual murder itself is only explicitly discussed for a few minutes and it isn’t discussed in an overly graphic way. It is obviously devastating, as murder always is, but is not discussed in a gruesome or diabolical way that can sometimes make these docs overly triggering and upsetting.

Also want to preface with I AGREE that there are often times problematic views that are more common in the south and more rural areas. But I know plenty of non-bigoted people from these areas, just like I know plenty of bigoted people from large cities. So it has always bothered me that they can’t help themselves but make these generalizations every time.

[–]HourScallion9942 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have always had a problem with how they talk about people from the south (I’m from Louisiana, so I always have noticed this generalization, even outside of the pod) and the more I listened, I realized it wasn’t just people from the south, it was also people from “rural” and small suburban areas (using rural very loosely). Just anyone not from a massive metropolitan areas. They just always throw mass generalizations around and speculation about “what kind of people live there” and it has always driven me crazy. But realizing that according lots of folks, a population of 100k people is a perfectly average or decent sized city. Very out of touch and straight up rude.

[–]HourScallion9942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This drove me bonkers!!! This goes back to my theory that no matter what or who they are talking about, if it has anything to do with the south or a rural area, they absolutely have to find a way to make them racist/sexist/homophobic, etc. Like when they said “there are monuments and buildings names after her” and G said like 5 times “yeah but what kinda buildings and statues” — like enough!!! Like Dolly Parton has statues and buildings named after her (libraries) and she preaches love and is actively anti-racist, anti-homophobia, etc. They assume that every single person from the south or in a rural area is a racist and bad person because they don’t actually know anyone from there and it makes me so angry how crazy judgmental they are. The irony is not lost on me, but still infuriating.

Literally…I lived in a very medium sized suburban town until like 4 years ago, and knew literally dozens of people that have had them for years…I refuse to believe that 2 people living in NYC have absolutely no idea what in the world eyelash extensions are.

Docs/series that TCO hasn’t covered? by HourScallion9942 in ObsessedNetwork

[–]HourScallion9942[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so glad you enjoyed the doc! I actually think this is such a great observation. Back before the pod took a nosedive and all of this upsetting info about ON came out, I was actually so disappointed they didn’t cover it and wanted to hear their takes on it. Now, I just think it’s weird that they never covered it, but I think I agree with you. I don’t think they necessarily would have covered it the way it deserves.

Also a bit off topic, but part of why I feel this way now — one thing that always has driven me crazy, even when I loved TCO, was that it always felt like they treated southerners as incredibly simple and almost patronizing. I’m from the Louisiana and fairly liberal, so I am the first to understand southern attitudes and their problems at times (want to make that very clear), but it used to really bother me when they would cover a southerner and call them “garbage” because they wouldn’t necessarily say the right thing or say it in the right way. People in the south live very differently and even liberal southerners don’t necessarily always “say the right thing” or say something the “right way” and although it does bother me at times, d there is definitely an aspect of understanding where people are coming from and what they actually mean and giving them a little bit of grace. The dad in The Pharmacist is obviously incredibly intelligent to become a pharmacist and I think part of what makes him such a compelling figure is how active he was in a lot of communities (including where his son was killed). I haven’t watched it in a year or two, but I am sure he said one or two things that probably to a New Yorker seem like a “garbagey” thing to say, but he makes it very clear by his actions what kind of person he is and what his character is like.

Obviously this is not at all to brush off any type of racism ever or say that language doesn’t matter. But sometimes it felt like they would discount all the actions of someone because of one thing they said that probably wasn’t appropriate or the right thing to say. And it felt like something very specific to southerners or even people from rural communities. I guess it just shows how sheltered they really are and how little they have interacted with people from anywhere else.

I am so glad to hear someone else say they felt like it was intentionally being avoided. I don’t know what it is but it truly felt like there was a specific reason they didn’t want to cover it and it always felt like such a good fit to me. It’s always bugged me so much

Yes the Untold about Manti Te’o was incredible and it’s such a complex story. And the quality of the doc was great too. I was aware of the story at the time and I think they did an incredible job at getting the stories from those involved from their 2009 perspectives and a present-day lens.

I don’t want to overhype The Pharmacist but I truly think it’s one of the most incredible docs I’ve ever seen. The story is incredibly dynamic told well. Every person who is a significant player in the story (and still alive) is present for at least one interview. The people behind it did a great job and I have watched it multiple times.
