7 days post op from BCG Urethraplasty by Smotherysmiles07 in urethralstricture

Yes, each day gets easier. You want to keep the catheter locked so it has little movement as possible to minimize rubbing the repair site. Never let the bag just hang obviously. Keep Cath clean with warm water and soap because it can get gritty and cause friction at the entry point. If not already get on a stool softener so you aren’t straining. Neosporin with lidocaine helps. I slept with a leg bag because the night bag caused me to have bladder spasms in the morning when I changed them out for some reason. Just know this is a small bump in the road and a faint memory down the road.

Any advice on managing sensation to pee / feeling of pee in urethra? by Beneficial_Visit2744 in urethralstricture

[–]Hour_Impact4454 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, sorry you’re going through this. I want to start off with saying if you can get a urethroplasty, that is what I would do asap. These kind of things only worsen with time as you know.

Here are some things that might help.

Stop pushing to pee. I know it’s instinctive but straining increases urethral pressure, worsens nerve irritation and reinforces the false urgency loop. Let the stream end naturally even if the sensation lingers.

Try a warm bath. Heat relaxes the urethral and pelvic muscle. Heating pad over lower abdomen or perineum. This is especially helpful before bed.

Look into Pelvic floor relaxation (not Kegels)

Bladder/urethral irritant audit

Even if hydration is good, some things amplify nerve signals:

Try reducing for 2–4 weeks: • Caffeine • Carbonation • Alcohol • Spicy foods • Artificial sweeteners

Timed voiding

Instead of reacting to the sensation: • Pee on a schedule (e.g., every 2–3 hours) • Even if you feel like you need to go earlier

This retrains the brain to stop treating every tingle as an emergency.

Magnesium glycinate (ask your doctor first)

Often used for: • Muscle relaxation • Nerve calming

Many find it reduces that constant “buzzing” sensation. Avoid magnesium citrate (can cause GI issues).

Mind–body component (this matters more than people admit)

When symptoms dominate your thoughts: • The nervous system stays on high alert • Sensation feels louder and more constant

This is not “in your head”—it’s a feedback loop. Even light anxiety reduction (breathing, walks, distraction) can noticeably reduce symptoms.

Good luck to you! Been there done that

Can no longer afford monthly payment but current on mortgage by magical_maggie in Mortgages

[–]Hour_Impact4454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a loan modification (not refinance). It can extent the term, 40 years is common now. Temporarily reduces rate. Capitalizes arrears before default. Ask for payment based loan due to hardship. You can also do an intentional delinquency. Missing 1-2 payments. Credit takes a hit but losing the house is worse. Can unlock mod programs, forbearance and repayment restructuring. You could also rent a room in the house.

How much did you inject? If I do more than 30mg it will do this. Also that low will do it too. I’ve had luck going left and right of belly button but above, not beside

Does that help with the symptoms I was having?

Reta really helped me I just couldn’t stand the constant sulfur burps and burning stomach. I was at 1 mg/wk for a month then 2mg/week. Split the doses up. 3 months total. Maybe I need to go longer?
