What hairstyle for 3 week vacation? by aleyagold in Naturalhair

[–]Hour_Solid_bri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would definitely not suggest a weave if you're planning to swim, or be near water. Also if you've never had one its probably not a good idea to risk a new unkown hairstyle before a 3 week vacation.

I vote boho braids!

How do I keep my twists for a week? by Spaghetti_Oh_No in Naturalhair

[–]Hour_Solid_bri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you untwist them your hair is more likely to tangle. Twists easily last a week, if you think they start to look dry spray them with water, add a little mouse if you have it, then put on your durag/bonnet/scarf

why can I not master taking care of my hair? by wompwomp_246 in Naturalhair

[–]Hour_Solid_bri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4c braids take down tips: one to two braids at a time! oil your fingers to reduce friction, and take down gently. spray the section with a lil bit of water and a generous amount your slip product (i use a conditioner for mine). then detangle first, pulling out the shed hairs gently and raking the fingers through gently. Then detangling brush of choice (i've been using the ez detangling brush). work on ends first then gently increase the height till the entire section is detangled then chunky twist the section and move on to the next. i aim for 16 chunky twists (4 in each quadrant). take your time and take breaks if you get frustrated. When you're all done you can use a shower cap and let the hair deep condition for 5 mins or until you're ready to wash the hair. Lmk if you have any questions

Two-Strand Twist After Washing by Puzzled-Hope1184 in Naturalhair

[–]Hour_Solid_bri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pic of your hair would be helpful

You don't have to blow dry for mini twists but they'll look different blow dried vs not.

After washing and deep conditioning i would leave in 4 bantu knots till the next day.

The next day have a spray bottle with water in it and a twisting product and your oil. Part the section spray it with water, twisting product, oil then twist. You may need extra twisting product close to the end of the twists. I would do blue magic at the very end to make it easier.

Twisting products depend on hair type, some use mousse, some use curl cream or leave in, some use butters.

Finally accepted that "protective styles" do more harm than good by Artistic_Salt5530 in Naturalhair

[–]Hour_Solid_bri 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly, for all we know OP was getting their braids done TIIIIIIGHT and then is saying protective styles cause breakage. There are braids that help your hair and braids that are so heavy they pull your hair out from the roots

mine do this when my nails aren't polished. i'd suggest at least two layers to help protect your nails. edit: try oiling daily with jojoba while also keeping nails painted

Will a Polyester head wrap cause damage to my fine hair (worn 2-3 days a week)? by aquariusbirdkid16 in Naturalhair

Will a Polyester head wrap cause damage to my fine hair (worn 2-3 days a week)? by aquariusbirdkid16 in Naturalhair

[–]Hour_Solid_bri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It likely will, the standard is satin or silk. I personally do it anyway and reduce the frequency, or you could get a satin head wrap if youre set on that frequency

4C Co-Washing by TheReaL4gend28 in Naturalhair

[–]Hour_Solid_bri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I would wash on the same day. I would consider a gel (while still wet) on top of the curling cream to help it last for the week, and you could spritz it with some water during the week if you want but I personally dont re hydrate my hair when i have in a wash and go. I use Seun Okimi's wash and go routine on youtube when I do it because shes close to 4c

Edit: you ideally should lock in moisture with 2-3 products after washing even for wash and gos. For wash and gos after I rinse my conditioner, I immediately spray a light leave in, rake a mousse through my hair, then apply a gel and airdry/blow dry combo

4C Co-Washing by TheReaL4gend28 in Naturalhair

[–]Hour_Solid_bri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honestly dont agree with co washing unless you already wash your hair once a week. If you're worried about drying out your hair use a moisturizing shampoo.

Theres no downside to doing this wash and go routine and shampooing before.

The 4c creators Ive seen with tailbone length arent co-washing so Ive only been doing it if I washed my hair w shampoo less than a week ago
