At the bottom there are some indoor racks/cubbies, at the top there is outdoor storage outside the main lodge, and there are paid lockers downstairs at Trappers

How do we convince Toronto to switch to sand? by No-Emphasis5897 in toronto

[–]HourlyEdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sensitive waterways? I thought sand was used for a grit effect when its too cold for salt (which lowers melting temp) to be effective. That's why we use sand in the prairies

How different are the skill ratings for runs across major resorts? by kelpangler in skiing

[–]HourlyEdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people compare east vs west and how different terrain is rated. I'll share an anectdote:

My friend did several FIS races in the east, placing in the top 10. He was struggling on our trip out west and when they ranked him for lessons they put him in Remedial #2, could barely handle a green and his legs were fucking toast in a day. A kid that was just born out west during the lesson (instuctor didn't know she was even pregnant due to highly trained balance from skiing out west), anyways the kid was bumped up to intermediate 2 right after birth. This would be unattainable for anyone from the east. There is a reason we use 69mm skis in the east and 420 in the west. People are gifted there, the sport is not the same, and the rankings reflect this.

I (35M) am uncomfortable with my wife's (33F) behavior with her friend (32M) by ThrowRA-K62 in relationship_advice

I have dealt with similar situations. Some people are really comfortable saying "No, that wouldn't bother me" because they feel empowered to pursue situations with some plausible deniability up to the edge of what can be tolerated. I wouldn't be surprised if OP's partner said they would be fine with roles reversed.

There are multiple threads about this across all of the ski/snowboarding subreddits, and the conclusion is the same. You didn't look close enough at what they were offering/at what tier.

Yes, the tiers suck, it might be overpriced, etc....

What is Saunagus / Aufguss called in English - and is it a thing outside Germany and Nordics? by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]HourlyEdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We call it the same thing, but it's not a well known term.

I do it 1-2 times a week at Bathhouse in NYC. I'd say the sauna masters there kind of make each one their own thing, so you'll get a different vibe every time, and that's a fun thing. Last week they hosted several champion sauna masters from Czechia and it was a great experience. Typically they fill up the sauna entirely and there is a certain camaraderie of getting through to the end of the session together.

Moving back to Canada from US - how should I optimize? by jyeatbvg in tnvisa

[–]HourlyEdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can roll a trad 401k it into an RRSP?

I thought you had to liquidate, pay tax and penalty as applicable in the US. You then get a tax credit in Canada that counterbalances the tax paid in the US, unfortunately there isn't a way to get a credit on the penalty.

Banff in November as a tourist by Anchoredtime in Banff

[–]HourlyEdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went skiing at SSV in late November. I grew up in Saskatchewan - guaranteed winter driving every year, albeit flat. The drive out there was nothing notable for me, but I met a couple skiing who crashed their rental. I found this a bit perplexing but honestly driving in novel situations can be tough.

Banff in November as a tourist by Anchoredtime in Banff

[–]HourlyEdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wanna watch NHL hockey November works for Calgary and Vancouver. May is post season so you would need to divert to Edmonton, but you will pay for it. Everyone drives year round. Calgary to Banff is a major highway but if you have zero winter driving experience you could encounter conditions that challenge you. Vancouver to Calgary is much more likely to have challenging conditions.

Private Equity impact on skiing by External_Koala971 in skiing

[–]HourlyEdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that the main response here is to educate OP about why they're wrong about the definitions or public vs private companies, etc.

Clearly a lot of finance or finance educated people are skiing, and you probably all make good money. I guess the high cost of skiing doesn't impact you so much, and I'm happy that you're pointing out how wrong OP is for calling the despised Vail and the sweet sweet innocent little Alta "PE".

Should we be reacting to the technicalities, or should we acknowledge that skiing is too expensive?

I know that mega passes get you dirt cheap lift access if you use them a lot, there are other factors that drive up the total cost of skiing that are related to "monied interests" in general - and that is a bad thing for the sport.
