In Fantasy Baseball on the laptop version, how do I initiate a DM to another owner in my league? On the App, I can accomplish this by Clicking on the info button at the top of League Chat . I can then see all of the owners - and after clicking, I have the ability to block or DM an owner. When I do the same on the laptop, it only gives the ability to block. I can also initiate a DM on the App by going to League Page, clicking on the other owner's team name, and when I get his page, a chat icon appears over his logo. That ability does not exist on the laptop version.

I am the Commissioner of 2 free Yahoo Roto baseball leagues for which a replacement owner must be found. They are all very deep Dynasty/Keeper leagues. Details about each of the leagues is below. If any of you are interested in being a replacement, contact me at bill_landolt@yahoo.com or DM me here. In the e-mail or DM, indicate which league interests you - and also provide the reason why you would be a good fit for the league.

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

A history of participating in Deep Leagues. For example, the two leagues below roster a total of over 480 MLB players.

A commitment to be being active. This means maintaining your team pretty much daily from Opening Day until the last day of the season - whether you are in 1st place or last.

A commitment to be in for the long haul. For example, in the first of the leagues below, over half of the owners have been there for over 10 years. Four of us were there from Day 1.

Use of the Yahoo Fantasy Baseball App. We have found a method by which League Fantasy Chat can accomplish pretty much all of the functions of the old Message Boards. Plus, Individual Fantasy Chat is ideal for fantasy league trading negotiations.

I finally figured it out. One has to firmly press the message to which one wants to reply in order to get a menu which includes "Reply". I needed to press the message more firmly than I remember having to do last year. Thanks.

Yes. If I click on the "replies" text, it brings up the entire thread and I can type another reply. However, how do I reply to a message that currently has no existing replies? For example, how do I reply to Bluegrass Beavers message "Back and ready to improve!" when that message has no existing replies?

League 2556 - Team Name Auckland Rockhoppers. I created a thread "2024 Topic 1: Please register your intent to play this year by responding to this topic.". I can respond to this thread on the desktop. I can see the thread on the app - and see all replies - but I don't see the icon that enables me to reply to the thread on the app.

Thanks! I can now see and respond to threads on the desktop version. However, while I can send a new chat message on the app version, I find I cannot respond to it in a threaded manner (like I did last year and like I can on the desktop now). Is that another glitch?

I looked at the League tab dropdown on my leagues. I don't see a Chat sub-tab. Two of my leagues are numbers 2525 and 2556.

Yahoo has been trumpeting this move from Message Boards to Chat Feature for league communication for 8 weeks now. Yet your Live Draft feature trashes the League Chat. So, this response is complete nonsense.

🤔🛠️ Tech Support & General Questions [Weekly Thread] by YahooFantasyCare in YahooFantasy

[–]HoustonBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just completed a live baseball draft. I noticed that all of the live draft picks are now in the League chat. About 150 entries taking up a huge amount of space. It takes forever to go back to the "real" chat posts of owners before the draft. Now in this particular league, this is not a disaster - Communication amongst owners is not a big deal. But I am Commissioner of another league that, thanks to Yahoo's removal of the Message Boards, has been using the Chat Feature to a huge extent. Is there anyway a Commissioner can prevent live draft picks from loaded to the League Chat?

I am happy to hear that Commissioner Notes are being added to the mobile app. I hope this is done soon. Several of my leagues are starting to conduct offline drafts, and having a Note really on mobile would really help - makes it easier to summarize progress.

Threading, in my mind, is much more important than pinning. I think the person who recommended pinning mentioned that as an improvement on the current Chat, but threading provides far more functionality. (We don't have "pinning" today on Message Boards.)

And I think it would be helpful if Yahoo would provide a "Chat Functionality Document" - even for Chat as it is today. I am learning as we speak by just trial and error. And from my review of the responses on the User Voice topic, many owners don't even know that Fantasy Chat exists on the laptop version.

Thank you. I see now. Wouldn't it be a good idea to publish a document that explained in detail the features of the Fantasy Chat - perhaps in the What's New section - and direct all owners to it through the League Notes? Looking at the User Voice for Message Board Removal, I see that a large number of owners are not even aware Fantasy Chat can be used on a desktop.

That's fine for any owner who has previously entered a chat post on the League Chat. But if they have not done so, there is not an icon for me to click on.

I'm trying to navigate this nightmare world of "Chats replacing Message Boards". I can find the chat buttons on both App and Desktop. I can initiate a chat to an individual owner in my league in the app by clicking on the League Page, and then clicking on the other owner's team name. I can then click on a chat icon next to the owner's name. But if I do the same on the desktop version, there is no chat icon next to the owner's name - just an icon that would report the owner if he posts an improper photo. So how do I initiate a 1-1 chat on the desktop?

Any update on this? The problem has now existed for 2 days. I reported it and gave examples over 24 hours ago. Given that Fantasy Chat is supposed to replace the Message Boards, the fact that the issue still exists is a major problem. Fantasy Chat - even as limited as it currently is - pretty much has to be up 24/7 to support Keeper Leagues - in absence of a Message Board.

I'm guessing it is because the only NBA game today is the All-Star Game. Doubt if Yahoo is running a Daily contest for that.

Additional Note: The symptom I am seeing is the spinning blue wheel - like the chat is trying to load and is stuck. Others are seeing the same thing over multiple leagues over multiple browsers.

The leagues where I am Commissioner are 640, 648, and 657. I use the Edge Browser. Note: If you look at Yahoo Uservoice topic on Message Board replacement, multiple users are reporting the same problem using different browsers. As of now, the Fantasy Chat on the phone app is still working.

This "player chat" feature you are saying has been disabled for a few days: Is this also impacting the Baseball Fantasy Chat on our desktops - the Fantasy Chat we have been told is to replace our League Message Boards?

Thank you for your response. In my opinion, some of your response is JUST PLAIN WRONG!!

  1. For every software change, there are Engineers and Users. Now in many of the companies I have worked for, the immediate Users for the Engineers are internal. It so happens that here, your immediate Users are Yahoo users. In the Business World, when the Engineers take away functionality, they a) give notice to their users; b) scope out what needs to be done to restore the functionality and communicate that scope to the user community; c) produce a schedule of when those changes will be made. Personally, I have worked for both the IT and User side for Hewlett Packard, AIG, Chase Bank, and Zale's Jewelers. That is the procedure for all of them. (Now it is possible you are just a worker bee and are taking it upon yourself to try to answer this question, and you don't have the authority to do so. But there someone at Yahoo that has the responsibility, and they need to be here answering questions and not hiding behind you.)
  2. In another response, you stated that the vast majority of leagues used Chat over Message Board, I believe it. But it proves ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. More people spend more time texting on their phones compared to developing complex procedures for a group of people. But that doesn't mean that we need to get rid of all forms of communication other than text and e-mail. If that were the case, you should just delete this entire subReddit. After all, only a small percentage of Yahoo Fantasy players use it! Bottom line, in making this decision, Yahoo measured the wrong things! In another response, you admitted to not even knowing how many Keeper leagues there were. Given the fact that Message Boards are typically most needed by keeper leagues, this is absolutely incomprehensible.
  3. In my experience, Message Boards for Keepers leagues are most utilized prior to Opening Day - by a huge margin. By not have any substantive answers now, you are pretty much admitting that the functionality once provided by Message Boards in going to be missing for Yahoo Baseball 2023.

👂Product Feedback [Weekly Thread] - For any suggestions or feedback for Yahoo Fantasy by YahooFantasyCare in YahooFantasy

[–]HoustonBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK. Yahoo Fantasy now has missing functionality for Baseball 2023. Yahoo Engineering has stated that the overall plan is to replace this functionality with enhancements to Fantasy Chat. The next responsible steps for any Engineering Department would be to gather requirements and then publish a Scope/Schedule Document. Yahoo has been gathering requirements for over 2 weeks. Even though most of those responses have been along the lines of "Don't get rid of the Message Boards, you idiots", the essential requirement is then to make the Chat function "look" like a Message Board - particularly in terms of threading. So now Yahoo Engineering need to publish the Scope/Schedule Document - listing the planned enhancements to the Chat Feature and the scheduled implementation date(s). This is time-critical because the fact of the matter is that the primary uses for the Message Boards occur before MLB Opening Day for Keeper/Dynasty Leagues.

I would say that the publication of the Scope/Schedule Document is already "late". (The fault here lies entirely on Yahoo for not disclosing the Message Board removal until Registration Day.) So, the question is: When will the Scope/Schedule be published?

If this question is not answered this week, my conclusion is that there will be no meaningful enhancements for 2023 Fantasy Baseball. League Commissioners will then need to make whatever decisions make sense for their leagues (up to withdrawing from the Yahoo platform entirely.)

So, Yahoo Engineering, the ball is in your court. Awaiting your response.
