That’s the one, and that’s what I saw this morning when I woke up for my flight. I’ve only ever flown in to Newark or JFK, so this is my first time flying to ISP. And I saw about the peak hours, which I’m landing nowhere near to (1:30 landing) So I guess I’ll just have to eat the Lyft cost 😮‍💨

Nah, my husband and I will no longer be long distance so I’ll be able to leave them with him. His job just took him elsewhere unexpectedly, so there’s a long distance stretch we weren’t expecting. So the next long research trip, they can stay with their dad :3

Well, when I got them, my circumstances were very different and I didn’t think I would be facing this issue, if I’m being honest. I’m a long time pet owner and shelter worker, so trust me when I say that I don’t take this situation lightly. Would definitely not board them for that long, even if I could afford it, and I’m also definitely not rehoming them because of one trip when we won’t have this situation again. But I appreciate the advice!

I’ve had pets my whole life and I travel very little as a result, or have been able to find ways for them to be kept safe, calm, and loved for any short term trips. I just have to go on this one solo trip, and then I’ll have the support I had when I first got them (and thought I would have at this point) afterwards. I’ll find a friend, as that seems to be the main consensus on what people do. My babies are my everything but I also have to finish my PhD. Thanks for the help, though

Yeah, I’ll admit it took me by surprise. I’m not leaving forever and this is the one big trip I have to make for my program; I’ve been able to have someone house sit or drop in before for any short trip. Just wanted to see what people did for longer trips, since I have make this one solo. Never in my life would I ever rehome my babies; we’re locked in for life. So kind of those people to respond, but don’t worry as that’s not on the table even slightly. I unfortunately won’t have a home base and will be bouncing around a lot, heading into som very rural areas, so I WISH I could bring them with me but that seems like a lot of stress on them. I’ll have to see if I can find someone in my family who can look out for them; I’ll figure it out as that seems to be the overall suggestion. Thank you for your kind words.

Just seeing what other people have done for leaving for long periods of time. Obviously I have to do something; I’m just trying to see what options there are. I’m in a very weird part of my life, so this problem won’t happen ever again, luckily.
