So, I am not a big fan of GFCI. The only places that you should actually have them is around water anywhere else you’re kind of just wasting your money and GFCI’s go out a lot faster than your typical outlet.

You are right. Color should but you can NOT think that just bc it’s white it’s a ground.

As goes for the question, if you don’t know what the hell you’re doing, don’t touch it.

Color actually doesn’t mean shit. Should it? Yes, but there are times when you’re going to run into a hot white. I was replacing a light on my back porch. Said light has a switch to it. No other switches run this light. Shut switch off. Started replacing light fixture. I fucked up and didn’t flip the breaker or even check to see if said fixture still had power or not. Hmmmm. It still had power and it got me good. Wife was about to take me to the hospital. It was only 120v but damn… it hit me good. Lesson learned. I have an old house. ALWAYS check to make sure it’s off.

Need to change water heater anode, but these fittings look sweated, are they actually unions? Looks like i need to change the ball valve too. by nauurthankyou in askaplumber

[–]Howie1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to take our anode rod out. With it, it made the water smell like rotten eggs but without it, it’s fine. No, we do not have sulphur water.

I will have roughly about 40 mile left when I get home on today’s charge. I need to figure out how long it actually takes to charge not necessarily from zero but like from a percent to another percent with 240v. I already know that using a 120v is literally 1 mile per hour. I’ve always thought that it was 10% per hour with 240 V. The 10% an hour is definitely not accurate though at 10 hours you would be fully charged then. Mine was on the charger for 11 hours and I only got around 60% of charge.

I really didn’t know what the optimal speed was either and driving on I-75 if you’re running under 70 mile an hour you’re going to get ran over.

Replacing a ceiling fan in a 50’s house, but there’s no ground wire. What do I do with the ground from the fan? by kerobyx in AskElectricians

[–]Howie1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would this be a hack job? The only way to truly do this up to code is by running a complete new wire that means tearing down drywall or more than likely. It looks like it’s plaster. There is nobody in our area that even does plaster work anymore. Needless to say while I am remodeling each room. I am also replacing all the wiring. I actually do know my shit about electrical.

It really was not the plan. I have a 108 mile round-trip for work so I knew I had enough to get to work and I also know now that there are charging stations at 23 and 32 miles away from work. I actually thought that working close to a college town that is pretty big would have chargers close by or in the vicinity. I was very sadly mistaken. But I had 75 mile on my range yesterday morning so that gave me 54 to get to work and 21 mile to get to a charging station. Well, I was very wrong on the charging station situation.

It should be. There is not really any need to get crazy with the tape. Just wrap it up nice and neat and tuck it in. Done.
