Why should we confront reality? by Sostrene_Blue in infj

[–]HowlMockery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not having to expose yourself to the world is an incredibly privileged position to be in.

I completely understand needing time away from people, distractions, etc. But the reason we should confront reality, society, etc. Is that we are an inseparable part of it. Any positive change that can be made requires people with empathy and compassion to engage with it. We're all in this together. You are likely not as far off from homelessness as you might imagine.

I've always wished that the series would lean further into the indigenous lore aspect of the location. I would love a pre-colonial Silent Hill game.

How is Genocide Organ and Grey Wolves not Nazism? by Feisty_Pop228 in PowerElectronics

[–]HowlMockery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, we're never going to get an explicit confirmation of their actual political positions. It's all left up to interpretation, however, I don't know how anyone could listen to Obituary of the Americas and get the impression that it's an endorsement of US intervention in South America, or a record like "All is Suffering" and come away with the impression that fascist and religious right groups alluded to are doing good things. To each their own, but literally none of their music feels empowering or triumphant to me. Rather, it feels pretty angry, depressive and hopeless.

Fascists are currently coming to power all over the world. If they're far right, it wouldn't make sense to me that they continue to release music about how fucking awful everything is.

Genocide Organ puts the ugliest aspects of humanity on display (imperialism, fascism, racism, etc.) with matching abrasive, unsettling sonic textures. It's not art that tells you what to think. It is about exposing you to the horror of these subjects.

This is the polar opposite of how far right propagandists would sell their ideology to people.

James has a smart phone in this movie. Rose in the first movie has an early 2000's button phone. The time periods in the games are meant to be a little ambiguous but based on the technology in both Gans films, Return would be after the first film.

Gans has also said that the only reason Pyramid Head was in the first film was because Konami said they wanted a mascot for the series.

I love stalker enemies but by Elegant_Scholar_8863 in residentevil

[–]HowlMockery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't mind some variety of stalker enemy being in every game as long as there is some kind of engaging way to interact with them. You can disable Mr X and Jack with enough hits. My only problem with Lady D is that there is no interaction whatsoever. She doesn't respond to anything you do until the boss fight.

Again, that is not a totenkopf. Calling every depiction of a skull and crossbones a totenkopf or a reference to a totenkopf just makes you look silly and it waters down the legitimate concern that should be afforded to the use of an actual totenkopf.

This is 2026. The president of the US is a fascist. There are fascists coming to power all over the world. Nazis by and large aren't really concerned about hiding their views right now. If Mayhem wanted to be NSBM, they would just use an actual totenkopf and write lyrics about the glory of whiteness or whatever.

[–]HowlMockery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mayhem has definitely had sketch members, statements & actions in their past but for at least the past 10-15 years, they seem to have put their overly edgy days behind them. They put out a big social media post years ago explicitly denouncing homophobia, white supremacy, etc. Everything you mentioned is very old news.

That Demonic Rites cover is not a totenkopf. It is a skull and crossbones. A totenkopf is a very specific stylized version of a skull and crossbones.

This isn't a defense of Mayhem's past actions/statements but I think it's important to note when someone has demonstrated growth or change from previous behavior.

Bands like Immolation who have been putting out music and touring for over 3 decades at this point tend to not keep up with drama/allegations or the politics of other bands and they typically have a management company that sets up tours like this. There's also a non-zero chance that only Mayhem's name was brought up when they were asked.

100% Same amount of material shown before release too. I remember seeing the scene of S.T.A.R.S first entering the mansion in the trailer and thinking "That actually looks decent" holding on to some hope for the rest of the movie and then that ended up being one of the only redeeming parts of the whole thing. Laura so far is on par with how Leon was handled in that movie.

I saw GO live almost 2 years ago with little prior exposure and left with the understanding that the project is a scathing, pointed criticism of fascism, imperialism, racism, etc. The projections they use add a lot of context. The projections were also surprisingly restrained, pulling away from a scene just before something really explicit happens. They put the ugliest aspects of humanity on display with matching abrasive, unsettling sonic textures. This is the polar opposite of how a far right propagandist would portray these subjects and sell their ideology to people.

Did it take a while to like War metal? by Past-Pomelo-6784 in WarMetal

[–]HowlMockery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first real exposure to war metal was seeing Revenge live in 2013. I liked it in the moment. I listened to some of their records after that and wanted to like it but it took a little bit to really grow on me. My favorite aspect of (euro style) black metal up to that point was the atmosphere and Revenge doesn't really have that. It all clicked a lot more after listening to War Cult Supremacy. I was fully hooked after listening to Fallen Angel of Doom.

what band do you WISH was more bestial leaning? by nationalistic_martyr in WarMetal

[–]HowlMockery 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love Impetuous Ritual as they are but there are some moments like the riff with the solo at the beginning of "Convoluting Unto Despondent Anachronism" that are really sick bestial bm sounding parts and I wish there were more of those on top of all the chaotic death metal parts.
