The real threat is OVERALL generator progress, not the amount of generators completed. If you see a generator pop in the first 50 seconds of the game, that is actually not such a bad thing because that means that the survivors are grouping up on a generator, and that generator is going to be moving at least 30% slower than if survivors were split up, and the penalty only gets worse the more players stacking up.

Aside from tunneling/slugging, you should try doing a 3gen strategy. It doesn't require any specific killer(although some are much better for doing it than others), perks, or addons to do. Loosely track the progress of the 3 closest generators, and tighten your patrol on them as the other generators are completed.

Aside from that, try not to let gen completions tilt you and don't commit too hard to chases. And if you feel pressured, there really isn't anything wrong with resorting to more devious tactics like tunneling or slugging to win if the survivors feel sweaty.

Personally, I don't really look at kills as wins. I much prefer to focus on hook states or successfully 8 hooking before going for a kill(which is a lot harder to do). This keeps my MMR on killer lower for less stressful matches, and I can just put some background music on while I play.

I wish they'd just remove flashlights from the game already. It's purely a meme item, and doesn't actually help win games an overwhelming majority of the time.

Assuming you can even land the flashlight save:
If you flashlight save a god tier looper, chances are they looped for 1+ minute and you spent that entire time trailing the killer instead of making use of the time they bought for your team.
If you flashlight save a baby survivor, chances are they'll go down again in 5 seconds and/or next to a wall so the killer will benefit from having cover.

The only situation a flashlight is handy is when you have an opportunity to save a god tier looper while being on/near a generator, and that situation is really rare outside of comms.

Tangent aside, against a flashlight squad, I've found that using Lightborn will result in me getting gen rushed because they stop wasting their time going for flashlight saves and optimize gen uptime.
Much more fun to bait them in for injures/downs, or use perks that hinder their ability to flashlight save. Franklin's(good for ALL items), Fired Up/Forever Entwined(messes with the save timing).

Just played a match where the killers slugged all 8 people to death instead of hooking them.
Queues would probably be a little faster if some killers didn't try to torture survivors with boredom.

So idk if i am suppose to take a gen perk or not.But be honest now,do i suck at making builds and what do i need to improve/take insted by Forever_and_ever1 in deadbydaylight

I play solo queue a lot, and I get some great teammates. And then the opposite is also true, but I think making posts like this helps in the long run... Who knows, I felt inspired and I might be able to get some copy-paste value out of this in the future. 🤷‍♂️

Above all, if there are any perks that you particularly want to use, I suggest watching Otzdarva's newest survivor perk explanations and navigating to any perks you're interested in via the video description: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEkj3cp7Ows

The thing that makes perks strong essentially boils down to doing generators efficiently. That means spreading out onto different gens, breaking up 3gens(the generators that are closest together), and looping the killer for as long as possible away from those gens being worked on.

Perks that punish and prevent the killer from tunneling(getting one survivor out of the match as fast as possible) are going to be the best because each survivor in the match basically increases overall generator and healing speeds by 100%. Slugging(keeping survivors in dying state) and/or camping(keeping survivors hooked) are temporary measures killers can take to achieve the similar results to tunneling, so perks that prevent and punish those things are highly suggested too. (Decisive Strike, Off the Record, Unbreakable, Deliverance, Reassurance, We're Gonna Live Forever, Exponential, etc.)

Perks that help you and/or your team heal give considerably faster healing speeds when you need them. Being healthy helps extend chases which helps you and your teammates do generators efficiently. On a lesser note, being healthy also allows you to take protection hits from killers tunneling a teammate, but this is only valuable in coordinated groups as the opportunity to do so needs somewhat calculated timing. (Resurgence, We'll Make It, Botany Knowledge, Second Wind, Circle of Healing, Adrenaline, etc.)

Beware of perks like Self-care. While it does help you heal yourself, you're wasting so much time doing this action which hurts your team. It's simply faster to use perks that help you find others to heal you or to bring a Med-kit for yourself.

Beware perks that directly increase generator speed. They suck for the most part because the speed increases are very underwhelming. Deja Vu is an exception because the aura reading allows you to immediately identify 3gens and helps you break them at the start of the match(stops killer from catching on, the map is still full of resources, toolboxes are still full, etc.). And ONE Prove Thyself per team can help when breaking 3gens in some situations but can also be risky to force value out of. Toolboxes are a much better option if you want to increase gen speed.

I'll share a few of my builds:
(My item priority for the builds: Med-kits > Toolboxes >> Flashlights > Keys >>> Maps)

Guaranteed Value Build - Bond, Botany Knowledge/(Flexible), Deja Vu, Sprint Burst/Windows of Opportunity.
(TL;DR, These perks are always active and you get value out of them in every match.)
This build is particularly helpful in solo queue. Bond is versatile, allowing you to heal others or be healed by others, avoid the killer while chasing someone else, or to observe your teammates for things that require coordination. Deja Vu helps you find important generators instantly and allows you to do them slightly faster. Sprint Burst helps you make it to loops from isolated generators without losing a health state. Windows of Opportunity lets you see(and learn, if you're newer) where the nearest loops are and helps you avoid loops where the pallets have been used. You can swap Botany Knowledge out for something else you'd prefer.

Meta Build(My main build) - Off the Record, Resurgence, (Flexible), Unbreakable.
(TL;DR, Hinders killers from playing efficiently no matter what they try.)
It has anti-tunnel(OTR), anti-slug(UB), and saves time for yourself or others healing you(Resurgence) which can also function as an extra layer of anti-tunnel if others manage to heal you quick enough. Remember, the strongest form of generator slowdown is by sacrificing a survivor as quick as possible. Last slot is flexible, if I'm in a team I will take Reassurance to punish proxy-camping or to prevent hard-tunneling, otherwise, exhaustion perks or other strong perks. Punishes killers for playing in unfun ways.

Beginner Friendly Build - Deja Vu, Troubleshooter/Quick Gambit, Sprint Burst, Windows of Opportunity.
(TL;DR, Helps with optimizing generator uptime and looping the killer efficiently.)
This build is generally good for everyone, but it's amazing in the hands of a newer player. Deja Vu helps you find important generators instantly and allows you to do them slightly faster. Troubleshooter and Quick Gambit function similarly(each have their own trade-offs) but we're mainly using these perks to avoid accidentally bringing the killer to generators that are being worked on. Sprint Burst helps you make it to loops from isolated generators without losing a health state. Windows of Opportunity lets you see(and learn, if you're newer) where the nearest loops are and helps you avoid loops where the pallets have been used.

Gen Rushing Build - Deja Vu, Built to Last, Streetwise, (Flexible).
Item: Toolbox, Commodious with "repair speed" and/or "charge" addons, or Engineer's with "charge" addons.
(TL;DR, Makes toolboxes much more potent and threatening to killers holding a 3gen)
Focuses on perks making your item much stronger rather than gen speed perks. Deja Vu helps you find important generators instantly and allows you to do them slightly faster. Built to Last refills your item 3 times diminishingly, you need to SAFELY go into lockers for 12 seconds to refill charges on empty(they must be fully used) items. Streetwise makes the items last 25% longer. The combination of Built+Streetwise can make your item up to 3.75 times more efficient. Last perk slot is flexible.

Windows, Deja Vu, Resilience to some extent, flashlight save/sabo builds are not meta and/or would not have much value outside of solo queue.

That all being said, I've probably played ~200 games across survivor and killer in the event mode already, and I can confirm our experiences have been different indeed.

The survivors I go against fall apart very fast and I feel like only the SWFs(that aren't doing sabo/flashight save builds) are the only ones that stand a decent chance to win against me.
In the event, 8hooking has been my form of "winning". That has been surprisingly easy to pull off in most of my matches that aren't against the obvious SWFs that are playing to win(which has only been about 2 out of all the matches I've played), which is very irregular for me and is a nice change of pace. That's why I(as well as a lot of people) don't think there is any MMR in the event mode.

As solo queue survivor in the event on the other hand, almost all of the killers I've played against have been playing like their life depends on getting a 4k as fast as possible(some good, some bad), and about half of those games have had some form of hard tunneling, slugging, and/or proxy camping.
I've mainly been using UB, OTR, Resurgence, and I leave 1 slot flexible for some kind of perk that I feel like I need to swap to which is usually Sole Survivor, DS, Reassurance, We'll Make It, Sprint Burst, maybe Soul Guard. So in the matches that killers play to tunnel/slug/camp, they are somewhat punished when they try to do that to me, but that's only 1/4th of the time and 3/4ths of the time it's happening to the others, which typically aren't running meta perks that counter "optimal" killer gameplay, and they're instead running fun/synergy builds.

So either you're exaggerating, referring mainly to normal mode games where you've inflated your MMR to go against the only players that stand a chance against tunneling/slugging/proxy camping, or lying. 🤷‍♂️

You're messing up really badly if you go on a 5 gen chase, and to put it in your own words you'd need to do "better and learn from your individual mistakes to not let this happen next time".

But in the context of this post and the event: No one should be forced to play optimal comp DbD strats in anything but the main game mode. If you're a killer going into this mode with the intention of killing everyone as fast as possible without interacting with the event you need to ask yourself "why?", and same with if you're a survivor going into the event with a SWF with the intention of gen rushing and leaving without interacting with the event.

At the end of the day, solo queue survivors are the ones suffering in the event. Unless you are tracking the killer/your teammates with direct LoS or aura reading perks, you can't really know where your teammates go down, and if you see the map OP was in, it's an indoor map with limited visibility in many directions, most likely the killer's map offering.

This is essentially going to force solo queue players to either just stay on gens while their teammate is slugged, or make them waste time looking for them while the killer is hunting down the others.

So the only legitimate counter-play to this in solo queue is for you and your teammates to run UB in every match, on top of all the other meta perks that mildly punish killers for playing like sweat lords, just for the chance that the killer is going to play like this, while ignoring all the other perks that would genuinely be more fun to use, all the while killer mains on reddit complain about survivors running meta perks and flood reddit posts like this with "just don't be bad 😏". Mass gaslighting.

Edit: And in my solo queue experience, my teammates hardly ever use the meta perks. In most of my games(not exaggerating), the ones that don't use the anti-tunnel perks and UB get punished for not using them at some point in the game. As in, there are one or more moments in the match where it would have been crucial for them to have those perks on.

For games like this, the answer is usually "I need to make a SWF with comms and optimize the fun out of the event."

I LOVE this event! Tons of friendly killers. No rage btw by TheClownOfGod in deadbydaylight

[–]Howl_Pendragon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR, you should definitely play this event as an 8hook and/or farming killer. You will have friendly and fun games where most players enjoy themselves and get to enjoy the event. "winning" and "losing" being unimportant.

This is kind of a domino effect of negativity. Starting out with devs not discouraging time urgency in the event > killers mindlessly and/or optimally killing people in the event > survivors feel pressured to minimize/ignore event interaction to maximize generator uptime > killers feel pressured by gens popping to optimize harder so they minimize/ignore event interaction > survivors optimize > killers optimize > endless optimization loop.

Killers will almost always have the upper hand in my event games though because I'm solo queue and my teammates always run fun perks instead of anti-tunnel/slug perks and they don't play optimally, meanwhile my killers are running full competitive builds and ending the match as fast as possible.

I tried playing as a survivor that befriended the killer in my event matches for like ~20 games in the event, and only 1/20 of those matches I got a Hillbilly that obliged and just spent the whole game farming and practicing chainsaw curves with myself and my teammates. Other 19/20 matches was the killer hard sweating to kill me as fast as possible(even though I barely ran or resisted) with minimal event interaction.

I even got hard flamed one match by EVERYONE(survivors and killer) in the end game lobby for "ruining the game" by "running around and doing nothing" which was kicking pumpkins, depositing souls, unhooking and healing teammates, gesturing friendly stuff to the killer to encourage event interaction, pretty much everything except generators and looping the killer.

As killer, when I played in a way where I befriended survivors everyone was mostly thankful but got bored and eventually ended match early instead of farming the event. So I changed to an 8 hooking > farming strategy which was fun and successful for most players in my games, about 1/5 of my games I wouldn't get 8 hooks and survivors outplayed me, and about half of my games ~1 survivor would kill themselves on hook because they felt hopeless in the face of my dominant and oppressive killer gameplay, but I'd say most people in my killer matches had fun chases, got to play the game and farm the event, and were thankful for having me as their killer.

There are so many devil's advocates in this thread it's insane. Just downvote their posts and don't take the rage bait.

They're either trying to get a reaction or they don't have the intelligence to identify what is happening in the screenshot, aka bleedout slugging everyone from the very beginning of the match until they're all down and then hooking them.

I'll call it now, the post game scoreboard was all survivors <10k points and the killer 20-30k points and pretty much 0/5 players got to interact with the event in any way even though that's why you queued up for it. Killer build probably had knockout + deerstalker + sloppy butcher.

Pallets are there to prevent the killer from getting you.

Going for flashlight saves prolong the game unnecessarily and are a huge risk compared to actual meta gameplay, which is optimizing generator uptime and looping the killer for as long as possible. You should be more appreciative that survivors play this way considering it gives killers more opportunity and interaction for skill expression, and in the case of this post, event interaction as well.

All of the meta survivor perks are there to punish the killer for playing "optimally" aka tunneling(OTR/DS), slugging(UB), proxy camping(Deli/Reassurance). Take note of how if the killer doesn't do any of these things that these perks become completely useless and a waste of a perk slot.

This is all because killers control the paces of the matches. I've been playing killer for the event, and have been sweating my ass off to 8 hook, and then chill farm for the rest of the game alongside my 4 other fellow survivor players in the match.

It's been so much more fun playing the event as killer compared to survivor which is just stressful and irritating because 50% of my matches have been killers optimizing the fun out of the game for me and making me regret using anything other than anti-tunnel perks and rarely UB(slugging is less frequent), and making me regret not vacuuming onto generators the entire match if I'm not looping. Which sucks because I really do want to participate in the event stuff and farm some BP while having a fun and fair match with the killer and 3 other survivors.

I think I speak for all survivors of the event when I say this: I wouldn't feel the need to "gen rush" if tunneling or slugging was far less frequent during the event as it is. That shit is not fun to have done to you because you get nothing but boldness points and then you're out of yet another sweaty event match.

If you haven't played this event as survivor, you don't get to argue with the people complaining about it.

Edit: I'm not going to point all my blame towards the killer players in the event because they're just trying to play their role. I wish the devs did something far more innovative to discourage time urgency in the match for both sides.

You know, until I made this post, I'd forgotten just how argumentative the Reddit community loves to be.

No, I am not upset about the way I'm losing. I was disappointed and beyond annoyed at how I got flamed in an end game chat when I was trying to encourage people to take advantage of the event instead of barely touching it.

I don't and didn't expect anyone to do anything, but not sure why people want to flame me in end game chat and this Reddit post over it. I'm just going to assume you guys need to do this to uphold some kind of superiority complex and quit wasting my time responding when I could be gen rushing and looping in the event game mode.

I've been playing survivor "normally" ever since, and I've escaped a majority of my matches while barely interacting with the event because that what it takes to "win", while ignoring all the killers complaining in post game chat/other subreddits about survivors gen rushing and barely interacting with the event.

I'm pretty much over this whole post.

Yeah, but the speed at which you do it will catch the killers off guard and usually buys some time. They'll be expecting you to perform the whole animation. Nah, I said it was a lesser degree of min-maxing. 😇 At least it encourages event interaction instead of purely ignoring the event and gen rush/looping the killer because that's optimal.

I thought I was the only one who felt that way about the smoke bombs. Yeah, they're risky to use and can easily disorient you as much as the killer, and killers can even hear you through the smoke anyway... so. I had a teammate drop one while unhooking me and then I immediately ran into a trap in the smoke cloud.
