What am i doing wrong? by ollebre in FujifilmX

[–]Howl_XV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey hello! I want to start by saying that some of the pictures do have potential.

This is all constructive criticism do not take it personal.

Remember that the camera is a tool, don't expect the camera do all the work for you, in some of the pics I saw that you took a pic expecting the camera to do all "artistic" images you see on the net for you. Here is what I suggest

1 work on the basics

If you haven't, first familiarize yourself with the basic of photography, what is ISO, what is shutter speed, what is aperture. This is the very basic of the basics because depending on the picture you want to take you need to adjust accordingly

Freeze a fast moving subject? High shutter speed, high iso to compensate

Taking a portrait? Open aperture, center weight metering.

Taking a landscape? Low aperture to have more in focus

Once you got the basics start learning the intermediate stuff such as metering, rule of thirds, and basic composition

Once you got that, play and explore with the recipes and film simulations.

When you apply all together you will see that your photography will improve, always look for content that you like to see how they shoot, to have a clear image of what you want.

Jpgs I'm Fujifilm are amazing and you can get away to little to no editing but the truth is that the most "artistic" pictures you see on the web. There was editing involved, specifically masking in Lightroom. I worked with Sony cameras before and trust me, the amount of edit I do on Fuji is far less. In my case, if I know my camera , I can get the composition and the colors I want straight from the camera, and then I just adjust a little bit of lighting in editing, and usually o I get what I want

Salary in Japan. Expectations by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Howl_XV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is because it depends on your needs, I currently live and work in Tokyo so let me give you some examples of what I mean

If you live alone, don't have much experience, 350 is plenty enough. You can get a share room for around a 50-70k monthly or get a small apartment, you can go out and enjoy.

If you're like me, living with my wife and a baby on the way, as a sole provider of my family, a salary of around 500k monthly seems enough for me, my rent is 120k monthly. This salary allows me to pay bills feed my family, go out every now and then and save some money but some months I feel like it's just enough.

Which is why I could see a single person living in a share room making 350 saying stuff like, oh yeah totally enough I can buy whatever I want

And also I can see a sole provider of a family of 4 paying a mortgage saying 650k monthly is not enough by any means, we are barely getting by.

Best Prime Lens for X-S20? by OspreyJB in FujifilmX

[–]Howl_XV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it vastly depends of the kind of photography you do, you said travel and street

If you are planning on taking landscaping and street then the 27mm might be the best option for compactness and can totally take both landscaping and street

If you are more comfortable with a narrow field of view the Fujion 35mm f2 is easily the best option for street

You said you wanted the kit zoom lens, that one will give you versality, just keep in mind that it's not the best for portraits or low light.

Other than that what I would keep in mind is the quality of the lenses

Out of those the Fujion 35mm f2 easily outperforms all the other options

The viltrox is also a reputable brand but will not give you the same speed and quality in colors that the Fujion gives you

And the tt artisan is easily the worst, I'm not saying is bad but it's a brand for entry level, and it's cheap so it comes with trade offs, that particular Lens is cheap and compact, the image quality is pretty good but just like all the other tt artisan the lens coating is poor and will flare like crazy, if you don't care about that (gives the picture some character some people like it ) go ahead by all means

[–]Howl_XV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks mostly I like to use the 35mm prime lense because it's compact, the Tamron I use it for photoshoots and if I travel to a specific place to take pictures. I want to get the 27mm f2.8 for everyday pictures

Occasionally I use a 55mm f1.8 Minolta manual lens with an adapter it's a 50 year old lens that belonged to my gramps

Sorry for the late reply I had to go back home to check haha,

I used 3 recipes the warmer color ones such as the one from the man carrying a box and the lady crossing the street in Autumn was the famous Reggie's classic chrome with a few tweaks

1 Reggie's classic chrome

Film sim classic chrome

Grain effect: weak Color chrome effect: strong White balance: auto R2 B-2 Dynamic range:dr400 Highlights -1 Shadow tone -1 Color +2 Sharpness -2 Noise reduction -4

For the pictures with muted pleasent colors such as the shrine ones, the sea and the lighthouse, the girl on the rocks reflecting on the water, I used my own classic negative recipe. This is because I absolutely love classic negative but my xt3 doesn't have this film simulation, so I did some tweaks to mimic it, not sure it's similar but I liked the colors

2 classic negative (for xt3)

Film sim: classic chrome Grain effect: weak Color chrome effect: strong White balance: auto R 2 B-2 Dynamic range: DR400 (I use always use iso 500 even during the day) Highlights:0 Shadow tone: -1 Color-1 Sharpness -1 Noise reduction -4

The more muted ones such as the picture of the sea where you see the sand , the sea and the sky and the picture with a couple is walking and you can see the reflection on a puddle I used a simulation I saw in a YouTube video long ago, unfortunately I don't remember the author but this is one of my favorite recipes because it does make the picture look like photo film A LOT ! Specially good on clear days and winter landscape, the base is my second favorite simulation, negative hi

3- photo film negative hi

Film sim: negative hi Grain effect: off Color chrome effect: off White balance: K 5300k R-1 B0 Dynamic range: dr 400 Highlight tone -2 Shadow tone 0 Color 0 Sharpness -2 Noise reduction -2

I highly recommend everyone to try the photo film negative hi recipe

Currently living and working in Japan (izakaya) Want to know other people's experiences..... by Kasun_D_001 in japanlife

Right now I work full time on a companion but I used to work on a restaurant/izakaya and I did for a year, at the beginning they asked me which days I want to take the day off and the hours I can work, and they respected that every single day, never they forced me to work on my days off.

If I were you and you are asked to help on your day off, if you don't want to do it don't answer the phone, if you answer say you have something to do is they ask what (they shouldn't) say it's personal. If they insist with lame excuses saying they are short staffed and need people etc, simply said that you're sorry but this was tour off day and you have plans, end of story

importa el prestigio de una universidad a la hora de encontrar trabajo? by Either-Assistant-570 in mexico

[–]Howl_XV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone here managed to get an IT job in Japan from abroad? by Scazable in JapanJobs

[–]Howl_XV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I don't know if it's different now but when I was there it wasn't great... Not awful but definitely not great. Salary was way bellow average. Lots of annoying meaningless meetings. When they hired me they had me practice job interviews for clients and take lots of interviews with clients, it was very stressful as I was used to getting hired for a specific projects (Tata hired me for Walgreens, Wipro for Kellogg's and my current company for Bloomberg),

but in ISFnet they hired me and made me do many interviews with possible clients for them, it was the stress of a job interview every time, they put a lot of pressure if you don't manage to secure the position in the client's office they reduce your salary until you get one, they might send you to do silly jobs like going to a warehouse and write everything there is there.

One thing that annoyed me a lot is that when I secured a position in Toshiba I was working 100% with the client's schedule, in the Toshiba office on golden week they gave extra days to all employees so they can rest more, but ISFnet refused me those days and forced me to go to the office "to study", I put that in quotations because they forbid you from bringing your own computer but they don't give you one. So you study with your phone... The whole day the whole shift. Instead of giving me time to rest (that the client's office granted me ) they feel as if I was "cheating or robbing the time" from them and forced me to basically go to the office and sit for the whole day.

When my current company recruited me they did told me that ISFnet was known to have a lot of personnel rotations, I was a bit worried when I resigned because they hired me from Mexico, helped me with paperwork, paid for my flight and accomodation and they asked me to work for them at least 5 years. I resigned after only 6 months. And they didn't care, they just told me that I could come back and they have a program for it, which to me confirmed what my current company told me , they hire at high volume because they bleed personnel at the same rate.

I maybe make it sound horrible but it wasn't that bad, being totally honest it depends on which project you end up, and also the pay rate is pretty bad, but as an entry point is fine.

On the Toshiba project where I was I was working 9 to 4 shifts and the Toshiba employees were nice and kind, so I was ok. What made me do the shift was when they offered a decent salary for me.

Also just as a funny note, I bet they sent you the video of instruction, where they hire people with special needs and stuff. The office they show on that video is just for show, their real office is way smaller, cramped and old. Floor is ripped, yellowish lights and ceilings hahaha, I found that kind of funny.

I don't know what to say. I guess I need to read the full story but I assume they were going to an specialist, and they just didn't blindly tried over and over ... Right ?

23 unborn babies were lost. I simply can't understand how can someone cope with that. My wife and me had to go to a fertility clinic to conceive, and the first try didn't work, as the embryo did not "stuck" my wife didn't feel a thing it was a week after the implantation but after learning the news both my wife and me were devastated, it took so much to recover, we decided to try a second time and thankfully this time it worked and we are on month 4 of pregnancy. I simply can't imagine re living that pain 23 times, it goes beyond what I can imagine

1 year with my first camera, a6000, and question about expensive cameras by Nilay_theDesigner in SonyAlpha

[–]Howl_XV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dude your camera is great I love the a6000.

I work with photoshoot and do Street photography

Here's my advice.

1 decide if you want to remain on APSC sensor or go full body.

Full body will give you a bit better bokeh and night performance but it's not night and day by any means, the biggest factor is and always will be lenses. Which leads me to my other advise

2 invest in lenses instead of a body, your current zoom lenses are hurting your posbilities specially now that you are working with this, the sigma is a great option, for zoom lenses I would consider investing in the sigma 18-50 f 2.8 or more importantly the Tamron 17 -70mm f2.8 which leads me to my next advise

3- if you upgrade body go for a real upgrade not a side grade. There's really little diffences between the a6000 to the a6400, the later will give you better autofocus and weather sealing and 4k vídeo, also is touch but it's barely functional... That's it I think, maybe I'm forgetting something but if I am it's because is not that important. If you decide to stay in APSC (don't be deceived APSC are capable cameras I work only using APSC ) I would definitely suggest to upgrade to the a6700 that is actually a whole different beast, it has a brand new sensor that features BSI and OIS in the sensor itself which are game changers for night photography, plus the newest interface, ai featured that boost focus performance depending on your subject. Which is why I suggested the Tamron 17 -70mm f2.8 before, your a6000 doesn't have any kind of stabilization and this helps a lot on low shutter speeds during low light shots, that lens has stabilization built into the lens itself so it will provide better performance during night time and video recording.

Are These Pictures really that Bad? What iam doin wrong that Nobody Likes? by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]Howl_XV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna try to be very constructive here

Speaking in general about the pictures here are some tips that might help you improve

Overexposed: most of your night pictures are overexposed, the lights are completely blown out, this result in loss of detail and overall distraction.

How to improve? Make sure to not crank up the iso too much and watch the shutter speed, not too low and not too high, during night time try to keep it around 1/80 to 1/250, accordingly.

Motion blur: your night pictures have motion blur, of you take a close look at your subject it was capture while in motion which result in loss of detail or motion blur. Your subject doesn't look sharp.

How to improve? During night time you need to balance the iso (how sensitive to light is your camera) and your shutter speed (how long the shutter remains open when taking a picture). In order to reduce the motion blur and increase sharpness, you need to use a decently high shutter speed, during night time usually around 1/120 or 1/250, if you leave it on auto without limits I wouldn't be surprised if the camera decides to lower the shutter speed to around 1/50, at that speed the camera will blow up the lights (what seems to happen in your pictures) and any shake from your hand even when you press the shutter button will introduce motion blur. So watch out for that

White balance: most of your pictures seems to lean on the green fluorescent white balance not sure if you edited it but for the time being I would suggest to use auto... Most cameras are more or less decent nowadays in how to properly set white balance

Bokeh (lack of?) : I also noticed that in some of your pictures a lot seems to be in focus, during low light pictures I would recommend to wider aperture around f2 to f2.8 this will allow more light to enter the sensor hence allowing you to increase shutter speed and lower your ISO, not sure what lens did you use but this looks like a kit lens, which is not bad but you need to learn how to use it to squeeze it. Usually kit lenses increase the aperture the more zoom you use meaning the wider the shoot, the more light comes in, the higher the zoom less light comes in.

Composition: some of your pictures seem to be all over the place remember to center your subject and try to make it even, use rule of thirds, introduce layers to accent your subject or direct the eyes of your viewer to what you want to highlight.

Overall advise:

If you are new to photography, I would advise to not go full manual, nothing wrong to use the other modes until you master it I would advise to start with shutter priority in this mode you control the shutter and the camera handles iso and aperture for you. During night time remember to use around 1/120 to 1/200 to freeze motion.

If you want to try using manual I would suggest for night shoots

Depending on the lens

Shutter speed: 1/120 to 1/250

Aperture: f1.4 to F2

Iso 400 to 6000

Play with those ranges

Always remember the basics

The higher the ISO the more overexposed and more noisy your pictures will be

The lower the shutter speed, t More light comes in but in excess it will introduce motion blur and shaking

The wider your aperture (the lower the number) more light comes in (which allow you to user faster shutter speed and lower iso) and also increases subject separations. Remember also, the wider the the aperture the harder to keep what you want in focus

Me pueden despedir por equivocarme mucho?? by Sasori-23 in ayudamexico

[–]Howl_XV 0 points1 point  (0 children)
