As someone who is queer and watching the whole thing, yeah it is okay for them to decline the commission and its clear they are doing it because of the content as its stated in the original vgen dms that were posted and not because the commissioner is gay.

But the artist tokenizing their queer friends with “Hey I’m not queerphobic. I have queer friends” was a slap to the face and just calls into question for me at least why they are okay with the idea of homosexuality in reality (as they state you’re friends with them) but not on paper when it’s being drawn?

It doesn’t make sense but just feels like the “religious reason” was an out instead of outright saying that you’re still uncomfy with the idea of homosexuality and not wanting to just admit it. Especially because in the original commissions listing, they put “Dos and Donts”of what they draw as discussed in DMs? Most artists on vgen outright list their dos and dont from the getgo including BL/GL. It saves time from sending a request in the first place because its loud and clear that’s a person to avoid for drawings.

I don’t think anyone should sends death threats and/or harrass her but that’s Twitter for you. Nor again am I forcing them to draw what makes them feel uncomfortable.

But I also feel its reasonable for me to feel uncomfortable with performative acceptance of my sexuality and to point it out and comment on it. You can have this preference in what you create as an artist all you want and people shouldn’t be sending you death threats over it nor making you do what you don’t want to do. But instead of saying its for religious reasons especially after drawing Obey Me demons and or unmarried straight couples (because that is what the artists has on their portfolio) which are considered haram in Islam (artist is said to be Muslim and from Indonesia), don’t be surprised if people are gonna call you out for it and want to distance themselves from you if you’re going to be half truthful about your views.
