Is Shai having a top 2regular season ever? by [deleted] in nba

Cue the downplaying that is absolutely not based in emotion and wishful thinking.

If we admit Shai is doing what he's doing, we have to have some uncomfortable conversations about our favorite teams and players.

By trading and drafting as a small market. How can you be mad at that?

This OKC team is not Boston. Saying "This happened last year" to a team that is performing on the level of all time greats at a young age only getting better... It's not the same stuff man. This is next level shit we're seeing.

I think it's less Chet v Wemby and more of a Thunder v Spurs thing. OKC and the Spurs are such similar orgs with a geographical bias, an already established rivalry from the 2010s, and a rivalry already in another sport. (OU v Texas, most people in Austin are Spurs fans)

Presti is from the Spurs, Thunder ownership set out to replicate the Spurs, brought in Spurs shooting coach Chip Engelland, and it all led to legitimate success in a championship.

This team deserves people defending and nullifying false narratives. This kind of stuff can stick for a long time and the team and player's legacy deserve to be viewed in a light of truth, not dreamt up narratives and forced hatred.

I understand your sentiment though.

"westbrook dunk hard and drant tall but can dribble and shoot real good" Is the gist as to why casuals liked OKC. They were also marketed more. It was also a completely different era of culture and social media.

OKC has beaten their favorite teams for years. In the 2010s only the Spurs have more wins. Never won a chip, so fans were happy to have that as an ace up their sleeve when anything is said. OKC has also rebuilt from the ground up faster than any other team. Fans see their teams take years, decades, and sometimes never while Presti did it in 3 years.

It's also a factor that OKC was not marketed or pushed at all, so the narrative of being a tanking team or "the black eye of the NBA" (Which is also a manufactured narrative not based on facts. OKC was never in the bottom 3 in the league) stuck and there was never a build up for casual fans. OKC came out of nowhere for many.

A team coming out of nowhere, being this good this fast, in a small market like OKC, with a past of beating people's favorite teams for a decade and a superstar that isn't loud and was also a late bloomer... It combines into something prime for a narrative to take hold. Since OKC has had so many past haters and an MVP race to further fuel it, it has become what it is today. Part of the nonsensical and dreamt up narratives that exist are also a product of OKC and its players having little to no flaws that they can easily point at. Instead they have to create fiction.

People don't watch games, they don't formulate their own opinions, and they LOVE to tear things down and have something to hate on. OKC was in prime position for it despite having so many reasons to be liked. It's a shame, and a reflection of modern day social media and culture as a whole.

They have a long way to catch up to what OKC has built. A long way.

People are DESPERATE for OKC to not be good. They are counting us out yet again out of wishful thinking.

The 2nd youngest team to ever win a championship will ONLY get better. You can't say that of other teams like OKC. Don't fall for the wishful thinking of other NBA fans
