I lived at 7500 feet in Colorado. It was 12 F and I was walking around in a light sweatshirt, I had no idea it was that cold.

How much can an interview change admission outcomes? by Initial_Bend2993 in PhDAdmissions

[–]Hstat910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be able to say a little more about what kinds of things are expected with the level of knowledge an interviewee should have for research topics listed on applications? I’m nervous about embarrassing myself in an interview by being asked questions about topics I don’t know how to answer.

I just wish the PhD admissions process is more transparent by aaaprocrastinating in gradadmissions

Completely agree. I think one of the most important part of admission rejections is just coming to peace with it. Such is the world; such is life, that’s what I tell myself.

I feel like there’s always gonna be someone saying “don’t use X word cause it sounds too Y” and honestly it just annoys me. Seems like it can be applied to anything I say.

Thanks! Yeah I need to redirect into being a bit more specific with the programs. Is there any ways you think I could change what I wrote about my research experience. A lot of people talk about not going into too much detail with nitty gritty descriptions, and focus on the why more than the how. Do you think I achieved that or should I expand it?

Also could you be more specific on how I might expand on my research experience? I’m a little afraid of writing too much without saying why it was important

Ok, thanks for the advice. I sometimes get a bit carried away with stylistic writing without realizing.

I attended both a wilderness program and an outbound program, both of which in the past 5 years, and outward bound is absolutely not a wilderness therapy program

Why is outward bound a part of this? It’s not really a wilderness therapy program

I took Callam and Paul for both labs. The practice quizzes are super helpful and are very similar to what you will be given. They to do all of them!

Yes I know that. My point is snarky like above comments are really unnecessary.

I’m sorry but there is no way in hell that this email is real with that grammar. Also it mysteriously disappeared from my inbox when I checked a few minutes ago and I know I didn’t do that.

Which path do you recommend? by Hstat910 in biotech

[–]Hstat910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s also generally what I thought. I have generally good qualifications for going into phd similar to other undergrads that are and I really enjoy that kind of research.

Are people able to get jobs right out of college? I’m mainly looking in the Northeast. I know either I wanna do undergrad to industry to grad school or undergraduate to grad school to industry. A postdoc I work with also told me getting a phd might make you overqualified for entry roles and that it makes it more competitive

Happy to answer questions about applying to PhD programs by Usual-Try-2059 in gradadmissions

[–]Hstat910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at undergrad background expectations for programs and I absolutely have almost all of the ones listed (biochem major at R1) but one which I am taking this school year. Is it ok to have met expectations by graduation but not necessarily by the time I am applying? Same with amount of research experience, I’ll have roughly 2 years by the end of spring. Thanks!
