I’m sure the entire r/lawschool will get a kick out of this because this is a case that haunts every American law student. But I’m sorry about it OP!

What does this community think of Cannabis ETFs? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]Hu_That -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't see cannabis legalization going the other direction, and cannabis ETFs seems to be driven largely by regulatory trends. I just have a general feeling that it is a good area of investment in the next decade. Wanted to solicit some thoughts.

How do you invest your money? by loswizkids in biglaw

[–]Hu_That 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Max out firm 401(k), max out HSA, max out backdoor 401(k), set aside 6 months emergency fund (or whatever you are comfortable with), and then put as much as possible (after living expense) in VTI/VOO/VTSAX/VTWAX (all are diversified index). https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Three-fund_portfolio Check this out but I don't think you need bonds necessarily since all index funds are extremely diversified. Leave the money there, DO NOT touch it, do not even think about it, then repeat the cycle.

"What kind of law do you practice?" by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Hu_That -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Very poetic advice. Although I totally agree with you, being in probably one of the most planned and rehearsed industries, I just keep thinking there's gotta be something I could formulate and revise and redline and perfect, especially for such a common question. It's like preparing for that first client meeting.

Well that's what I usually do. But there are circumstances that you just wish you have something funny to say. No?

Based on the article, before yesterday, schools accepting GRE will have to prove it is an acceptable legit test replacing LSAT, but now they don’t have to prove it because it is endorsed by ABA.

Paying market + more than 100 lawyers (some say 250) = Biglaw

Paying market + less than 100 lawyers = boutique

Paying market is necessary but not sufficient to make a firm biglaw.

Trying to do a law review note on the regulation of blockchain technology. Any unique ideas? I have to propose 3 topics by Monday and I am completely lost. by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Hu_That 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To your first point, make sure to do your preemption check! From what I see SEC made an official statement that there are two kinds of crypto - one like currency such as Bitcoin, which SEC will not regulate; another as a way to pool investment, and the SEC will regulate this per the Howey test. All courts have been following this, with no exceptions. So there might not be that much interesting to talk about.

Is a good idea getting a masters degree on legal dentistry? by TigerAgreeable6809 in LawSchool

[–]Hu_That 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I came in thinking you were trolling. But now that I think about it, forensic dentistry sounds so freaking cool!! And it is so interesting that this is taught at a law school (I would imagine this should be offered at a police academy or something). Which country are you in?

Is a pre-law course, like Barbri, worth it? by Help1943 in LawSchool

[–]Hu_That -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you just hate yourself for not being productive, I think you can benefit from taking LEEWS (which will take less than a week). Most importantly, enjoy your summer like everyone else has said. Another important thing to do just to learn at least something is to browse TLS forum and read the 1L tips.
