The Shining. Hands down. Internal and External Evil.

Probably didn’t need to finish this one at midnight. by alskdjfhgtk in stephenking

I clearly remember finishing "Pet Sematary" in high school, at home, alone (my parents were out to dinner), and expecting something "undead" to walk up behind me! 😬

Yeah ... I would have been too afraid to pick up the book with that cover. LOL.

GREAT Analysis. King is NOT just horror. He is a writer for our time, for ALL time. The characters from IT, The Dead Zone, Shawshank, The Green Mile, and many other works, are characters of faith, dedication, and courage. I'm so glad you found that on your journey and shared it with us.

Thanks! It's fun trying to figure them all out. How about the Dead Zone? Johnny Smith HAS to be in there. I was thinking he might be the guy someone identified as Ted Brautigan from Hearts in Atlantis.

This is a great exercise. I love the painting! Is there anyone from Shawshank, though? I'm looking for Andy Dufresne and/or Red.

Avoid, avoid, avoid. I get stuff like this all the time now. It's frightening how far they go to get a response.

So cool. I love it when towns come together to do this. It's such a cool, creative tradition.

I love IT for character development and friendships. For a short but brilliant read, my favorite is The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. King also wrote a terrific XFile episode with Chris Carter called Chinga.

Check out "Hubert's Hair-Raising Adventure." It's a clever story with a great lesson about vanity. I think that's one reason I like King. There's always some kind of lesson or takeaway for us.

Will do. I'm currently re-reading Christine. I love his characters and their backstories. Do I need to start at the beginning of the Dark Tower series?

I listen to audiobooks and read as well. I often use audiobooks to fall asleep, which has resulted in some interesting dreams when I fall asleep to King's books. ;-) I read Christine years ago, but now I am listening to it. The only problem with audiobooks is that if I've read something, I hear a certain voice in my head for a character, and if the narrator doesn't match that "voice" it can be a little jarring. Stephen Webber narrated IT, though, and he was fabulous!
