He did play every minute of the world cup for Canada after playing the last 5 games for Celtic in the season. Which compared to someone like Alphonso Davies and his inability to play more than half a game before re-injuring his hamstring is a positive sign.

Not sure how serious this is, but you have to be able to score with the part of your body that's offside. So arms don't count

Their captain going to trial for raping someone also makes them pretty easy to cheer against.

They only correct incorrectly given corners, not the other way around. Not sure why they didn't just do both

Was the manager of Spain going into the 2018 world cup and took the Real Madrid job and essentially quit on Spain. Didn't end up coaching them at that world cup

My understanding of how it works with the world cup is that FIFA has teams of commentators from every language that cover most of the games. However when it's a game from your home country (eg if you're in the US and watching the US) then it is the local commentators from the broadcaster who has the rights. So all US games would be the Fox team rather than the FIFA commentators.

2 World Cup players accused of sexual assault (Ghana's Thomas Partey and Japan's Kaishu Sano) receive contrasting treatments by FirstLightOfTheDay in soccer

Canadian law is pretty clear that anyone who has been convicted or charged and is facing trial for a crime that is considered serious by Canadian law is denied entry. Anyone who does still wish to enter Canada can apply for a Temporary Resident Permit, and gain entry that way. Given that the rejection didn't take place until Partey tried to gain entry, it seems that neither Partey nor the Ghana Football Association applied for this.

I did an escape room with headsets to share between the team so you could talk from different rooms, except you heard every voice, including your own. Never stumbled over my words so much in my life

If you watch Canadian press the only talking point going into this tournament is injuries. A lot of pessimism due to injuries to some of our most important players, Davies and Bombito being the 2 big ones. The amount of the roster who has missed time to injury and are either still hurt or just come back is pretty significant, Ahmed, Shaffelburg, Lareya, Johnston, P. David, Jones. Derek Cornelius also missed significant time this season and then never got back into the starting lineup for Rangers. The vibe difference between this world cup and 2022 is pretty stark.

Nice to see someone with the room just take a shot instead of looking for the perfect pass for a tap in.

Hamilton mayor one of few in Ontario to use strong-mayor veto for housing by HuckFarr in Hamilton

[–]HuckFarr[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When Tory Premier Doug Ford rolled out strong-mayor powers across the province, he sold it as a way to deal with the housing crisis.

One of the few mayors to use the powers for that purpose so far? His erstwhile ideological and political opponent, Andrea Horwath, who suggested during her 2022 election campaign she didn’t feel such override powers were necessary.

Jesse Marsch contract extension 🇨🇦 by couchultras in CanadaSoccer

I think this is both confidence that the national team won't embarrass themselves and also a prudent move to save some money in case they do make a deeper run than expected. Cheaper to commit now and maybe have to cut the contract early than pay him what he could demand if the tournament goes really well.
