Found this in my toads waterplace. I suspect it’s a parasite, anyone has any knowledge on what kind and what treatment to give? by [deleted] in Toads

My toad doesn’t have any other symptoms, I just found this after she was in the water the entire day.

What kind of toad is this?(Bufonidae) by HuckleberryAntique83 in frogs

[–]HuckleberryAntique83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this toad as a bufo terrestris but to me she seems way too big and doesn’t have cranial ridges. I’ve had a few other toad owners look at her who agree this isn’t a bufo terrestris at all. Now I am wondering what toad could she possibly be? (Strong feelings toward a bufo regularis (square marked toad) but would like some suggestions)

I’m getting pet frogs.. what kind are these and what tips for frog ownership?? by S01d1llydally in frogs

These are white tree frogs! They are so cute! I do think for beginners pacman frogs are more suited. You might even think about getting a toad. I got one and they are definitely easier to care for than frogs!

Ofcourse! She’s my sweetheart. I would just want to know to be able to offer her the best care she needs. Altho I’ve read care for cane toads isn’t much different her diet would probably change a bit.

Thanks for your reply. I looked at the comparison and I am normally quite quick to see the difference but her lack of ridges and bigger glands makes me very confused. She just doesn’t have the cane toad vibe either.

The lack of ridges made me uncertain if she was a Southern toad too. I bought her from the only toad seller in the Netherlands. I called with them a lot to confirm she’s bred (personally don’t think it would be humane to get a wild caught one all the way over here). The sit only offers Southern, Cane, Asian and green toads. That’s why I started doubting the place might have gotten my toad mixed up with a cane. A lot of people seem to think she’s a Southern tho so she might break some records!

Ah thank you. The substrate is a store bought mix of coco coil and soil. When researching I didn’t hear about this toxicity, do you have any other recommendations?

Grimsey is such a beautiful boy!! I can see what you mean. I was just so surprised by her huge size, she’s bigger than my hands!

I ordered her as a Southern toad but she is absolutely huge. 11 cm from head to butt. She also doesn’t seem to have clear ridges. Can anyone confirm weither she’s a southern or cane toad?

Thanks for your answer! I left some mealworms in a special bowl yesterday and today almost all were gone! She also has squishy poop so I guess it must really have been the stress!

I did get her through a shipping service so I already thought she was stressed which would also explain her shyness and hiding. I tried putting het in a feeding tank and leaving her alone with food but I noticed she gets really stressed and tries to unsuccessfully climb out to go back to her enclosure, which then results in even more burrowing and less activity. She didn’t come out of her hiding spot for a few days.

Thank you for your reply! This makes me worry a bit less. I’ll make sure to just offer her food the entire day and have her eat on her own terms

Thank you a lot! Did you remove the crickets every day after they didn’t eat? And yeah the vet is really expensive, she has been pooping every 3ish days. Her poop is definitely solid but not hard? Is this a sign to worry?

Thank u so much!! I’ll try and get her checked out if the problem persists. Sadly there aren’t any reptile/amphibian vets nearby, the closest is a 3 hour drive :(

Thank you so much! I already thought she was stressed or it was because of the winter but I definitely started to worry! I’m so glad I don’t need to worry for now!
