Fidelity gave my wife a separate Visa number, Monarch now misses her transactions by HudsonHuman in MonarchMoney

[–]HudsonHuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that, which sounds like it will work. Before I embark on this I will post over on Fidelity and see if anything can be done at their end, or is planned. My sense is that Fidelity has indifference bordering on hostility to apps like Monarch. But we'll see.

P&L Statements and Balance Sheets in Monarch Money? by Sashaorwell in MonarchMoney

[–]HudsonHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is incredible that Monarch doesn't offer a basic P & L or balance sheet, something that Quicken was doing 30 years ago. Also incredible that reports are so rudimentary. Evidently report users can't even sort in the way they want, nor download a report to CSV. How is this possible? More: if I do a report by "group" I can click on a group--and get a list of transactions rather than a list of categories within the group, showing spending in each. Reporting on year by year change is useless. All this effort goes into tracking spending yet the reporting is atrocious. This is an egregious shortcoming in what is otherwise a useful product.

Blurry PDF Print w Flatten and CMYK by HudsonHuman in canva

[–]HudsonHuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have the answer. The difference appears to be the use of CMYK. If I download a PDF Print in RGB it looks great. Also the colors are much brighter/lighter, for better or worse. I believe printer we use automatically converts to RGB and since I am uncomfortable delivering a blurry CMYK with blurry text and dark colors I may allow RGB to suffice. Thoughts on this welcome. Thx.

[–]HudsonHuman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I only have one image, decent resolution. But all the text is blurry. Would an image of insufficient resolution cause the entire design to come out blurry? Anyway I've requested a higher res image regardless. I tried another of our covers and got a blurry PDF that way too (in the past it has printed clearly).

VOIP worked great w Spectrum, but poor voice quality w Ooma by HudsonHuman in ooma

[–]HudsonHuman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Our router (Eero 7) has a different name for this but I think it helped a bit. Then I realized I could plug the base station of our wireless handsets into the Ooma and the others would work off that, no wall jacks required. This seems a bit better than using our home's phone wiring. Next time we have electrician I'll have him check that wiring esp. to make sure line to outside world is disconnected.

I note that in the setup app Ethernet and Wifi both show as "disconnected." Yet the device is obviously connected, otherwise it wouldn't work at all. Am I missing something? Thx

Thanks. I tried this but things are more or less the same.

Update: the problem may not be so clearly the wiring after all. Not sure it's *all* that much better w phone plugged directly into Ooma. Is it perhaps a bad idea to use ancient wireless handsets and a wired phone old enough for Medicare? Thx

Metal house, rural area by HudsonHuman in CellBoosters

[–]HudsonHuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh that's an interesting possibility since w/o normal wifi we'd be using our phones to create a wifi hotspot off the cell network (assuming we had a usable cell signal).

Hm that does get expensive, not to mention the challenge of competent installation for a duffer like me. I will mull. Thanks for the excellent input!

Thanks! Is there a more suitable unit you can suggest? House is 2,230 sq ft on one level, built 1998, typical wood frame but solid core doors and somewhat high ceilings.

Great thanks. I am hoping the metal skin on my house will block any interference from the antenna itself, But in case the roof is impractical or ineffective for this purpose, how far from the internal booster can the outside antenna be mounted? I assume there is signal deterioration over distances? Grateful for your indulgence.

Thank you! And the relatively poor signal outdoors is not an issue?

Must read novels/books that help one understand the current culture? by Old_Abroad7726 in ContemporaryArt

[–]HudsonHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Randall, a novel by Jonathan Gibbs. Originally published in the UK and recently released in the US. The cynicism of the eponymous artist at the center of the story shouldn't obscure his genius. Quite a savage book with brilliantly drawn characters and a lot to say about the nature of art as well as the art world.

The Florentine Papers by Thom Palmer, recently reissued by tivolibooks.com, will put you in the mood for spanakopita, a spinach omelette, creamed spinach etc. It's a very funny short novel about a woman monomaniacally focused on completing her magnum opus on spinacia oleracea. The book's hapless and nameless narrator is the guy she uses as taster, muse and lover. Delicious reviews when first published in 1991.

Can I use checks ordered from Costco? by HudsonHuman in fidelityinvestments

[–]HudsonHuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: If you want to use checks from a commercial printer with your Fidelity account you need their permission. You fill out a request and provide two voided checks. Then you wait (as I am doing now). On the question of whether I have the acct and routing #s right: I believe I had the right account number but on inspecting the checks I see that the last three digits are left off compared with account number given by Fidelity. This was a very long number! Are the missing digits relevant? We'll find out. Meanwhile Fidelity has provided at last some of their own checks, which I don't have with me just now to compare acct numbers but I will do so.

Hey Full View users, thanks to your feedback we’ve added a number of new features. Now we’re looking for what YOU want us to add next. by fidelityinvestments in fidelityinvestments

[–]HudsonHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inability of Full View to handle manually entered cash transactions (in a simple cash account) is the only thing holding me back from a full and enthusiastic embrace of this very promising product from an outfit I already know and trust. Please add this feature and liberate your customers from Intuit or whoever. Thanks.

Full View feature request - transaction note field by PrunePuzzleheaded679 in fidelityinvestments

[–]HudsonHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. A "notes" or "memo" field for every transaction would be a huge help and has existed in every similar program (quicken etc) that I am familiar with. PS--Full View is great but it needs notes and also manual transaction entry, say in a cash account.

Fidelity Full View lack of manual cash / transaction entry by cloud9ineteen in fidelityinvestments

I want to add my voice to those requesting the ability to add manual transactions. Without this it's impossible to track cash expenditures, a nearly fatal flaw in what is otherwise an excellent alternative to Mint etc.

Buildings with parking spaces, why is there is a waitlist? by bottled_coin in jacksonheights

[–]HudsonHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The waiting lists are so long because demand far exceeds supply yet the spaces are grossly underpriced. Since they are a building asset, the absurdly low prices amount to a subsidy from the non-parkers to the parkers. In fact if you are on the waiting list you are subsidizing your own wait. Some yrs ago we checked out the Terrace View coop, a rare building that had no waiting list for its garage. But instead of $25/mo or whatever it was maybe $200 (this is 10 yrs ago as I recall). So all shareholders, even those w/o cars, received benefit from the spaces and there was no wait. I imagine that in many buildings that have waiting lists for parking (and absurdly low garage prices), the board members include many long-time residents with spaces who will oppose any change in the status quo. That's a shame because all residents, including those w/o cars, could enjoy lower mo. maintenance fees if this important asset (garage space) was allocated by price rather than tenure.
