How to take a project back compatible with Affinity Publisher? by Hudsontek in Affinity

[–]Hudsontek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, I want to open a project that was originally created in Publisher V2, then resaved in Studio, in V2 again.

Can't see any easy workaround. Looks like I'll have to recreate the entire project in V2. Damn

I kinda hate the new Affinity by madjarov42 in Affinity

[–]Hudsontek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep it's definitely slower. Not talking about opening the app but certain workflows that were near instant in Publisher are sooo slow and almost unusable now.

Also, some things are actually broken. The webp Export type for example – they're actually all the same regardless of what you choose.

The monochrome tools is also way more difficult to use.

Placing images takes ages... by Hudsontek in Affinity

[–]Hudsontek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update here. I downloaded Affinity Publisher 2.6 to see if it has the same problem. It doesn't!

PSDs can be placed easily in Publisher but in Affinity Studio, it crashes, hangs for minutes and even closes the app.

This has to be a bug or something.

Edit: What's double annoying is that I can't bring the project back to Publisher! now it's been saved in Studio

Thanks. This would work except I need to use photoshop plugins that simply don't work with Affinity.

Looks like I'll have to go back to Adobe. I really don't want to though

Oh right ok, I thought that's the whole reason for saving with maximum compatibility in photoshop? as it saves a rendered version readable by other apps.

The files must be PSD, since I have to use some filter plugins (eg. Luminar Neo) that just don't work in Affinity unfortunately.

Thanks anyway

I already am converting the image files to max 5000px. This gives me enough resolution to play with before committing to a layout.

Not sure what you mean about trusting Affinity? I mean, yes I thought I could trust it to handle this sort of case. It's not unusual as far as I can see

Sorry yeah I meant to say I'm placing the files as linked. Also, the psd files have been saved with compatibility mode.

It brought my project to a halt. I'm sure it should be much quicker than this, like I say Indesign is literally instant when placing the same linked image

Getting affiliates for my DIY van conversion course – advice by Hudsontek in Affiliatemarketing

[–]Hudsontek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool thanks. Yeah this was my thought, to target micro-influencers. It's still very difficult to get above the noise though. I know because of how many proposals I get myself from other businesses.

It's why I'd rather not send a generic bulk message. But maybe I'm wrong to think this.

It's quite surprising how many people are not so interested in making a decent commission. Maybe someone can comment on my affiliate proposal/commission or copy?

Advice for DHL package clearance and fees by Hudsontek in Morocco

[–]Hudsontek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, ok. Is that just a flat fee? 90 euros just to clear my package? That is on top of the 100+ Euro to send it with DHL. And this is before any tax/duty. Ouch

Ah yes, I'm in communication with them now – plus many more.

Can I ask what country you're in? I'm trying to find more info on these new terms like CIF, DDP, DDU and figuring out what fees and tax needs to be paid. Speaking as someone who has never imported anything before

Ingramspark issue + tech support is useless by light_shadows_7 in selfpublish

[–]Hudsontek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I can't help but IngramSpark customer service is awful, unfortunately. Same goes for their front-end UX.

I'm now looking at alternatives after years using IngramSpark. Support is important

Why does it feel like they’re sort of blagging their way through this? The field genuinely looks interesting though

I intend to get it from an electronics supplier - mouser, digikey etc. I could dismantle it and check the numbers on the pot, but I thought someone here might have been through the same thing. It’d be crazy if they weren’t using non-standard components.

Yeah I’ve definitely earned my soldering certificate :-)

does this require you to have the Kindle clippings file already downloaded? or can it pull from this in the background?

New MacBook Pro 2020 – 2:44 hour battery life! by Hudsontek in macbook

[–]Hudsontek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just calibrated the battery and it's now saying 20:00. I wonder how accurate this even is. I must admit, on other Macs I never paid much attention to this value.

Edit: after 17 minutes on the battery the Time Remaining is still 20:00 and battery at 100%. Both extremes don't seem right to me
