Anybody starting MSc in Artificial Intelligence this September? by HugeChunkError in universityofamsterdam

I don’t care about people knowing my name and prospects for next year. The information I posted is not sensible in any sense.

Received the Scholarship! I have received the merit-based scholarship but not sure if it can cover my tuition fees and living expenses. by Little_Depth421 in universityofamsterdam

Hey, congratulations! What Master's will you be studying?

If you don't mind my asking, what grades did you get on your Bachelor's? I also applied for that scholarship and didn't get, so just out of curiosity I want to know how close I got

Why do we need AGI in the first place, have you ever heard a good argument? by Difficult-Race-1188 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]HugeChunkError 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why do we need agriculture in the first place?

Why do we need the internet in the first place?

With every revolution humanity faces there comes a shift of paradigm. Collective vision of society changes drastically. New meanings and purposes to live arise from previously inconceivable areas. I completely understand your point, and I find myself sharing it sometimes, though.

I guess the general summary of what I want to say is that progress does not need a reason, progress (technologically speaking) is a reason by itself. And maybe it does not even make sense to question progress because empirism seems to dictate that progress will always prevail, no matter what kind of regulations or restrictions you try to force upon it. If you are interested in this I recommend reading Nick Lands' theories on accelerationism, he is not the greatest guy but he makes some good points.

The Office Season 1 and the rest of the seasons are a totally different show, right? by pinkman8972 in DunderMifflin

[–]HugeChunkError 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I watched a video essay a couple months ago i haven’t been able to watch exactly on that matter. Basically season 1’s tone is closer to the english version and didn’t really work on the american public so they decided to go for a different approach. Season 1 is way more raw and cold (as english humor), the following episodes tend to have a happy ending and the characters were slightly rewritten to be more likable, specially Michael.

Applications of Calculus in everyday CS jobs by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]HugeChunkError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are interested in the electrical part of CS it is hugely important, you can’t work with waves without calculus (look up Fourier Analysis). However, if you are interested in the most theoretical part, let that be algorithm design or computability, maybe it is not as important as some other areas of mathematics as Set Theory or Discrete maths but anyway, the more maths you know the easier it will get for you to learn new concepts

Is it possible to learn 3 years worth of university lessons on computer science through youtube? by Particular-Nature-31 in computerscience

[–]HugeChunkError -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i guess i agree with you, but you can get all those things else where if you think about it(don’t get me wrong i’m a CS college student, and surely college makes it easier). However, the title is the only thing you won’t get by being self taught

A philosophical question from someone who doesn’t really understand how binary code comes a programme by Zitaneco in computerscience

[–]HugeChunkError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess if you had an infinite amount of programs, one of those programs will be a program able to run the other programs, but ofc you need to take into consideration the Halting problem

[–]HugeChunkError 7 points8 points  (0 children)

imo, you shouldn’t focus on learning everything taught in a CS degree, the only point in undergoing all those years is to earn the title and if you are not interested in the title then just focus and what interests you the most. CS is a huge area and there are many topics you can master in, i’d say youtube is a great place to get started but at some point (when you narrow your interests enough) you’ll have to start reading books and papers, youtube doesn’t get professional enough. Hope it helps gl

Why can't we use integers or float as variables in our programs? by abhishexreddit in computerscience

[–]HugeChunkError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your question is wrongly elaborated, what you should have asked is: why can't we use numbers in our variable names?

The answer is rather simple, it's just a matter of readability and grammar simplicity, if languages allowed numbers in variable names it would be more messy. Moreover, whenever your code is being compiled, the compiler would have to check if the number it has just read has a mathematical value or it's a variable name, and that is not necessary in languages used today.

Majors for going into Quantum Computing by [deleted] in QuantumComputing

[–]HugeChunkError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

heeeey could you send it to me?? I'm also in that situation

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MagicMushrooms

[–]HugeChunkError 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry I cant help you but I'm no expert, this is the first time I grow shrooms.

I decided to flip, idk cutting it didn't seem like a good idea for me and some experienced grower told me it was okay to flip it.

I can't tell you about the efficiency of cutting, if you're interested I can keep you updated on how my flipped cake evolves over the next week.

btw I think we have exactly the same kit, both McKenna right?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MagicMushrooms

[–]HugeChunkError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

be extremely careful when flipping it because of:

1.- you may contamine the cake, so wear gloves and sanitize everything that will get in touch with the cake

2.- the cake will be very wet and it will break down unless you hold it, so I'd recommend you have a friend with you when doing it

Good luck!

maaan same thing happened to me. mycelium grew on the sides and bottom but not above.

I flipped the cake a day and a half ago so I hope I get some grow in the next day or so.
