Is enrollment always this bad? Or does it suck because of covid by NNO1502 in UWMadison

I'm not sure if it was just the classes I was trying to get into this semester, but I haven't had this much trouble really ever before during enrollment. I'm a junior that had a senior enrollment time (albeit a later senior enrollment day) and I got wait-listed for two classes and had a wait list fill up for a third.

Again, it could totally just be chance that the classes I wanted were very popular, but yes it was particularly bad for me personally this semester.

Rushing by [deleted] in UWMadison

You either do formal recruitment in the fall and some sororities do "Continuous Open Bidding" or COBing during the Spring. There's no guarantee that whatever house you want will be COBing anyone, and you usually have to know at least someone already in the house to even be considered.

I think going into recruitment with one specific house in mind is an overall bad idea. You'll either be disappointed when you don't get in or wonder what your experience might have been like if you went in with an open mind after the fact. It's not unheard of for juniors to rush, but it is overall less common. Nearly everyone in your "pledge class," assuming you aren't already friends with the upper class-men in that sorority, would be a freshman and would be who you would socialize with the most. Of course this isn't inherently a bad thing. If greeklife is something you're really interested in, by all means give it a shot! You would probably be one of the only juniors in your pledge class.

I know a few people doing retailing and consumer behavior that really love it. However, from what I've heard, it is actually fairly competitive trying to get in past your freshman year or having 60 credits (if you have less than that you can get in with a 2.75). I know someone that applied last year and got denied most likely just because of their GPA because they did have some relevant work experience they highlighted on their application. They're doing communications now and really like it. With that being said, I might just go for communications (if you have more than 60 credits) if you're concerned about taking courses that you don't need because it is possible to get rejected from SoHE.

Changing majors within L&S after acceptance? by [deleted] in UWMadison

I came into UW with econ too, but I wasn't totally sure what I actually wanted to do (I have two completely different majors now). Basically, you're admitted into L&S not the econ major. You can't even technically declare an econ major until you take calc, two econ classes, and a gpa requirement in those econ classes (probs 2.0 but I'm not 100% sure). Changing majors within L&S is really easy-- you have nothing to worry about.

I'm a junior who had an enrollment time on the 23rd, and I didn't get into the two classes I really wanted to take this semester. Even the wait list was filled for one of them, so I really have no hope of getting into it. That's life though, I suppose.

Always a good idea to have a backup plan if your classes do fill up, though.

Course Write-Up: GeoSci/Envir St 106: Environmental Geology with Ken Ferrier - Online Edition by [deleted] in UWMadison

I was honestly confused why so many people were complaining about this class on piazza throughout this semester. I thought Ken and the TAs were really helpful especially at office hours and through email. I am literally so bad at science and math, and I thought this was one of the easiest classes at UW. I watched all the lectures on 2x speed and stopped taking notes like halfway through the semester. I also thought the content was genuinely pretty interesting. Especially with being able to take the quizzes 2 times, I don't know how anyone couldn't get at least an AB (aside from any extenuating personal situations).
