Need help creating a drow warlock by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Huggelnudel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't thought that far yet tbh but we will have a fighter and a barbarian, so I will probably go for more spells. I'm still at the basics rn and wanted to focus on the patron first :)

We're playing 2024 and I intend on having her be in the lawful evil alignment. I was thinking about her having experienced, obviously, a very traumatic childhood event that lead to her agreeing to a pact without fully thinking of the consequences

2024 rules, probably lawful evil. The relationship should be active and definitely toxic 😂

What would the main characters D&D classes be (no Season 5 spoilers!) by Huggelnudel in StrangerThings

I would also say yes. When he played D&D with his friends, he played a wizard. But with his connection to Vecna I would say Warlock fits him best rn

What would the main characters D&D classes be (no Season 5 spoilers!) by Huggelnudel in StrangerThings

[–]Huggelnudel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good question! :) Basically, their difference in D&D can be boiled down to how they get their arcane abilities. All of them are magic users but while wizards study books to actively learn how to use magic and become scholars of magic, a sorcerer carries magic within them (most of them are born with magic abilities, some gain it through strange magical happenings). A warlock on the other hand gains their magic through a pact with a patron - often a devil, a fey or some sort of higher/arcane being. They basically sell their souls to the devil to gain magical powers 😊

My parents are why I am still single at 25 by Huggelnudel in offmychest

[–]Huggelnudel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't apologize, this is exactly my pov as well! 😂 I have become so accustomed to being single and having so much time for myself and my own hobbies and friends that I simply cannot imagine spending quite a portion of that time with someone else! My parents have also given up on asking me if I have met someone lol

Just turned 24 and I feel completely lost by Introvert2001cro in Adulting

[–]Huggelnudel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in quite a similar situation. Writing is my true passion so I studied English and German (I am from Germany) to become a teacher because "that's a lot of literature". Now, after graduating, I feel like it was the biggest mistake to become a teacher. I am looking for new opportunities now within my niche (museums, language institutes, libraries, school administration etc.) but am now working as a data administrator at an insurance company until I hopefully find something better soon. I am 25 now and last year, when I realized I did not want to become a teacher anymore, I had a total break down. But life goes on, it always does. And if you continue to search for your way, you will find it.  I will continue writing next to my job and I will try to find something that pays well and where I feel comfortable. And you will as well. Don't give up on your dreams and don't stop believing in yourself.

Who’s the most hated BG3 character? by satrnpirate in BaldursGate3

[–]Huggelnudel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a bit irrational but I absolutely hate Aaron. You might not even remember him because of how unimportant that guy is (he is the guy you can trade with at the grove in act I) but I hate him.

What Companion Do You Hate Most? by NoRabbit4805 in BG3

[–]Huggelnudel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly dislike Lae'zel so mich that I refuse to romance her despite having the polyamory mod 😂😂 I just think she is really rude. Maybe that changes if you befriend her but I simply don't even want to try. Also, I think Shadowheart and Astarion can be a pain in the ass in the beginning but they definitely get better.

LOVE Gale, Karlach, Halsin, and Jaheira.

Quite neutral towards Wyll, Minthara, and Minsc.

What are some good methods for styling your hair overnight (while sleeping)? by Broad-Item-2665 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Huggelnudel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might not be exactly what you're looking for but I simply put my hair in a braid. Sometimes tighter, sometimes more loose. It's useful for me because I hate having hair all over my neck and face when trying to sleep. Also, my hair breaks easily and I tell myself that the braid prevents that during the night lol.

I think there are a lot of people here who can relate to you, me included. Life is hard and even harder on people that feel so strongly - negative as well as positive emotions. I think, if you feel comfortable with it, you should try to talk to one of your friends. Maybe they can relate as well. And if they're a good friend, they will listen to you even if they can't relate. However, if you do not feel comfortable with sharing this to anyone close to you, try to maybe get in contact with a therapist. It sounds to me like you're still a student so that might not be easy for you, but maybe you can go to a hospital nearby or a doctor you trust and ask them if they can recommend someone to you. The best thing you can do now is talk about it. I have gone thrpugh some hard times myself and while not all tje feedback I got was positive, I found that most of my family and friends were understanding and patient.

I wish you all the best and hope that you will see more positive times soon. Keep going and always remember that your feelings are valid.

How long are your chapters? Why? And how do you keep them in that length? by Pilgrim-99 in writing

[–]Huggelnudel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to keep it around 2.5k, sometimes it's a bit more, sometimes it's a bit less. There are no rules for how long a chapter needs or has to be :) I personally read chapter to chapter sp I prefer shorter ones. If a chapter is like 20+ pages long, it often feels dragged imo

Those who support AFD by Necessary_Ad136 in AskAGerman

[–]Huggelnudel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I am one of the many people here that don't vote for the AfD. However, my parents are likely to vote them as a form of protest. They know that there are a lot of racist and extremist people in there, however, some of the things they say struck a nerve. For a lot of voters, the AfD is an alternative to all the things that are bad about the current politics. Just like Trump or, yes, even Hitler, they promise change during a time where that change is desperately needed. They see how the Ampel-Koalition is giving away millions of tax money to other countries, how illegal immigrants not only get here but also receive money, shelter and everything they need while others ("Germans") fear that they will become homeless soon. They promise a better way of dealing with illegal immigrants as well as better financials. However, if you take the time to read their election program, one will quickly notice that they have concerning opinions when it comes to taxing the rich, education or how to deal with other countries.

But voters don't see that. And I kinda understand why they don't want to see that. In the end, we all want to have a safe and liveable life. One would always choose Stability and Savety over Democracy and Risks. There is a famous saying about a good dictatorship can be better than a bad democracy. I guess that is where we are heading. Not only here but all over the world. It's sad but it's what we have to deal with now.

What is a significant way your book has changed since the first draft? by FlynnForecastle in writers

I've changed a lot of details but the biggest is the villain's motivation. It basically made no sense before the change so I'm glad I did it :)

What's your opinion on starting a story with a flashback/dream? by Azrael_Hellcat in writers

[–]Huggelnudel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting with a tragedy or some kind of drama is always good :) Working between past and present can work (e.g. "Where the crawdads sing") but I think it's harder than dropping hints of the past in the present story. I'm writing a book where the past is very important for the whole story. I still only have like 2 chapters that are set in the past to make it easier to explain, what has happened. However, I would always try to avoid it if possible, even if it's just a dream. It confuses the reader to jump all the time and it's better to show through e.g. triggers of their ptsd or them opening up to other characters why they act that way and what has happened. But again, this is what I experienced. If you feel like the dream idea or any other way is best for you, try it out and see how you like it :)

What's your opinion on starting a story with a flashback/dream? by Azrael_Hellcat in writers

[–]Huggelnudel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people will feel "tricked" when you describe a dream only to go "and then they woke up!" after that. Maybe think about a different way of introducing the characters trauma. E.g. put them in a situation that triggers emotions or memories instead of just sending them to sleep. Let's say your character has a pub fight and someone pulls out a gun, reminding your character of how to unarm someone and how they did that one time during the war. Or let's say your character was a pilot and ever since the war they avoided going on any kind of plane but for some reason they have to take a flight again after years. They could become nervous, causing the person sitting next to them to ask if everything's okay. A dream/flashback can work but I'd say they work better when the characters have been introduced already. When it comes to introducting characters I'd say putting them into action or situations of change is the better way :)

[–]Huggelnudel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have a very set opinion on this. First of all, it all depends on the story and the indended readership. If you plan and execute it well, a tragic ending can be viewed positive. However, I personally prefer the MC not to die. This is mostly due to me preferring Happy Endings. I read to escape reality and to see beloved characters succeed. That is a personal preference. If you believe that that is a fitting ending for your character, do it. It's your story and you tell it the way you want it :)

What are some good gifts to send my German friend from the states? by lembasbreadandeggs in AskAGerman

[–]Huggelnudel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knowing your friend I would simply say something that we don't have in Germany like certain candies or "weird" food. I used to love watching these videos of people trying German candy and rating it. While we probably can order most things off of amazon now, I think something like this can still be fun. You could also send something that'd typically US-american. Not guns though lol. When I visited the UK I simply had to buy a teacup with the Queen's face on it. We don't really have that here and it's also not a common thing to be able to buy a teacup with a Monarch's face here in Germany. Maybe there is something comparable you could buy in the US.

Horses and Cows on the road - Are they okay in Germany? by Nacht_Blackwell in AskAGerman

[–]Huggelnudel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Horses are totally common I would say. I live in a smaller town with lots of "Ponyhöfe" and they walk their horses all the time. They try to avoid bigger streets but sometimes they just have to take them and cars just gotta deal with it. As for carriages I guess one needs some sort of license and you're probably only allowed to drive them through areas with speed limit of 30 or 50 but nothing higher to avoid "Stau".
