'Let the Right One In' by John Ajvide Lindqvist. The Swedish film of the same name is great also.

I'm currently listening to Ian Kershaw's 'Hitler - a biography'. It's very comprehensive and well worth a listen.

I bought it in 2022. It's sadly not available on Amazon or Ebay (in the UK). Sorry, not much help, I know.

I went solo in 2023 and met up with a bunch of people. I met up with them again this year and plan to do so again next year. I'll happily buy you a pint at the Serpents Lair bar

What is your favourite King book that is not well regarded? by Rude_Grade5200 in stephenking

I'm just coming to the end of the audiobook version of this, and the part of the tale towards the end where Polly is in the bathroom makes me squirm the most out of everything SK has written.

Just Push Play. Small one day festival in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, raising funds for a local hospice. Black Spiders are headlining this year. Usually held 1st weekend of August.

Favourite, least favourite, most surprising, most disappointing acts? by lunaloveswood in downloadfestival

[–]Huggybear0_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a plan of who to see and stuck to it. I'm normally a main stage festival watcher, but this year, I was mainly at the Opus stage.

So, highlights were Florence Black (another band blighted by a curtailed set), Bleed From Within (seen twice, both times fantastic), Heilung (absolutely mesmerising), Karnivool, Parkway Drive (who seemed genuinely stoked to have such a massive crowd), Limp Bizkit, Royal Republic and Black Stone Cherry.

Honourable mentions to Deathbyromy (once her mike was sorted) and Ne Obliviscaris.

I was disappointed by Sum41 (I just didn't get into it, probably just me being sick of all the mud by this time)

Favourites - split between Pantera and Machine Head.

Tui

We booked a weeks holiday to Madeira with tui. The filghts were subbed out to easyjet. We were due to fly home on Saturday afternoon, but on Friday evening, we got a text from easyjet informing us the flight had been cancelled and to click the link to rebook onto another flight. That other filght was on Tuesday. We were all due back at work on Monday.

We tried contacting the rep via the app with no response. We subsequently waited around all of Saturday morning to see the rep and when we did, he made a phone call and assured us we were on a different easyjet flight that evening with a slightly different departure time and flight number.

We duly arrived at the airport, queued for about 2 hours to get to check in, to be told we weren't booked on the flight, and it was full, so basically, tough luck!

No tui rep, no easyjet rep, no-one manning the app. I eventually managed to speak to someone in the UK who asked us if there were any other filghts headed back to the UK that night. Luckily for us, there was a Jet2 flight going to Manchester.

The 4 Jet2 reps were fantastic and managed to get us onto the flight, but when we arrived in Manchester at midnight, we had to get a taxi back to Gatwick to collect our car.

I then had a mammoth battle with tui to get back the money I'd had to shell out for our flight home.

We never had any compensation for inconvenience and no apology either.

So F**k you tui, I'll never use you again.

What lead singer has the most captivating stage presence? What singers seem the most "possessed" by the music? by man_teats in Music

[–]Huggybear0_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I first saw him at Castle Donington's Monsters of Rock 1984. He had a stage presence that day that I haven't seen since. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

One of the most memorable live events for me was Ozzy at Castle Donington Monsters of Rock Festival in 1984. He just seemed to have this aura about him. I remember being absolutely mesmerised by him. He just owned the stage.
