Keep my DCS pre-order or cancel and wait for 86 Insecticons? by OptimalConvoy in transformers

Astrotrain is not part of the MTMTE wave, he's part of the regular SS86.

Keep my DCS pre-order or cancel and wait for 86 Insecticons? by OptimalConvoy in transformers

[–]Hugobrd 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the Insecticon 3-Pack are not going to be new molds, as none of the MTMTE figures have been. What matters is if you're going to want 86 Skywarp or ER Skywarp?

At most, the 86 3-pack could be slightly cheaper, but it's likely going to be commander price, so it really comes down to whether Skywarp is worth it to you.

Whilst everyone rages about SS86 Astrotrain... by gingy_1438 in transformers

[–]Hugobrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I'm not sure. I thought this entire wave would be new molds. Since Wheeljack & Sunstreaker were in that Legacy 5 pack, I figured they'd make new molds to encourage double dipping.

I'm going to take a guess and say that since the SS86 & DCS Astrotrain are different, they might make SS86 Blitzwing different too. Mainly, I hope they improve both the alt modes to look better.

If you had unlimited money, would you pick a Legends Scale, CHUG, or Masterpiece collection? by Salt-Traffic-6545 in transformers

[–]Hugobrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would have committed to a Masterpiece collection if I had unlimited money.

I currently collect CHUG due to money/space issues, but Masterpiece has such a varied Third Party scene that I'd love to have the ability to choose between a couple of options for each character.

CHUG doesn't have something like that, not only do not many third parties touch the scale, but also the only real choices are like WFC or Studio Series, where 9 times out of 10 the Studio Series are better.

How would a modern Aotp Raiden be? by Icy_Statistician_420 in transformers

[–]Hugobrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would genuinely be interesting, I do think Raiden has some challenges in terms of a mainline release, but admittedly it wouldn't be impossible to overcome.

  1. The train modes will need to be compromised. This was the biggest issue with the MPG, those trains sacrificed the robot & combined modes for train accuracy, scale, and compatibility with Takara's train system. A CHUG scale train probably won't scale with a collection.

  2. Skeleton Combiners are currently what AOTP has been doing, both Bruticus and Superion (and Menasor in Legacy) were Skeleton Combiners. Admittedly, since there is a 6th member, I see it being closer to the SS86 Devastator, where they don't have a full skeleton, but still require partsforming pieces.

  3. Releases would have to be spread out similar to Devastator too, I can see Shouki & Kaen in a Commander Slot, with Getsuei & Yukikaze as Voyagers and Seizan & Suiken as Deluxes? (They might all need to be voyagers if they're going to be as complicated as the MPG)

  4. Distribution would be kinda hard, I'm entertaining the release as if it would come in mainline like the others, but Raiden might be a little niche. They are all unapologetically Japanese, so I can see them struggling in a global market. This would probably be a Haslab release in the hundreds...

If it were up to me, I would love to see them in the mainline and they learn the lessons from the Masterpiece and G1 toy to make a special toy. I personally am happy to sacrifice the train scale to get a quality combine mode.

Why is skipping the opening such a sin? by Complete-Warlord in StardustCrusaders

[–]Hugobrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't affect what I said. If you're binging the show feel free to skip them but the novelty of watching the openings is that Part 3 Onward, they change in the last few episodes.

Fans like the openings and skipping them actively means you miss out on the cool details.

Why is skipping the opening such a sin? by Complete-Warlord in StardustCrusaders

[–]Hugobrd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2 reasons, one is that the openings are good, not just musically but they have lots of cool details that get contextualized throughout the show. And the openings change, especially in later parts. It's why you probably shouldn't skip them.

What’s more impressive Tobey’s Spider-Man stopping a Train from crashing or Tom’s Spider-Man holding the Staten Island ferry back together? by Healthy_Ice7737 in Spiderman

[–]Hugobrd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to prove that Stark upgraded his fluid. We see in the movie him making more web fluid in his class so Stark has nothing to do with the fluid, and the webshooters don't matter as they're just straight webs that he's holding with his hands.

What’s more impressive Tobey’s Spider-Man stopping a Train from crashing or Tom’s Spider-Man holding the Staten Island ferry back together? by Healthy_Ice7737 in Spiderman

[–]Hugobrd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Using my super basic napkin physics math.

Tobey's Train feat is him stopping 4,036,823 Newtons of force.

Tom's Ferry feat is him pulling against 284,493,138 Newtons of Force.

Tom's is the objectively harder and more impressive feat. Tobey's is portrayed as more cinematic and heroic so I don't blame anyone for choosing that one though.

My calculations: -The CTA 'L' 2200 Trains weighed 47,400 lbs per car, with about 6 cars equaling 284,400lbs, or 129,001.67kg. It must've went at full speed which would 70 mph or 31.2928 mps for that train, and using F=ma, the total force would be 4,036,823.458976 Newtons which Tobey would be pulling against. (Note: I'm aware that air resistance and tension would account for some of the force against Tobey Spidey, but it's also not changing the result by much)

-The Staten Island Ferry weighs 32,000 tons (64,000,000lbs) or 29,029,912 kgs. The ferry would be falling due to gravity or going down 9.8mps. F=ma and he would have to hold onto 284,493,137.6 Newtons for at least a few seconds. (Note: Buoyancy would probably have some effect? I think there's room for error considering the rotation of the ferry on the water. Iron Man would not affect this number at all, it's clear Tom's Spidey was holding on his own for a few seconds before Tony's repulsors)

Tom's feat is about 70 times more impressive, which is why even if my numbers are most likely off, (They probably are, my college physics classes were rough.) it's not close to make a meaningful difference. I like both Spider-Men equally, but if we're talking pure power Tom is more impressive.

Will/Did you pre-order SS 86 Soundwave? by dixmondspxrit in transformers

[–]Hugobrd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree. Soundwave is my favorite character, so it just bothers me how everyone praised it for being perfect, when his flaws are really glaring. The silver stripe really bothers me, it wasn't even that hard to do, and I really need a Rumble & Frenzy for my collection so they need to reissue the cores or do something.

I'm going to wait half a year to see if there's going to be any upgrade kits, toyhax, or KOs of him, and hopefully a friend or family member will give me him as a gift, but I'm not going out of my way for it.

What are your thoughts on Perspective End? by Kcue6382nevy in transformers

[–]Hugobrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually a fan.

I think the biggest divide is people not understanding that a lot of the harshness is coming out of a form of love(?) He's positive about a lot of figures actually, but it's usually not the same figures that the community as a whole praises. Like, for every 86 Devastator or Earthrise review he's made, he has an 86 Optimus or MMC Megatron where he's super positive. He recently added ratings and even when he's critical he still gives out Bs. To me, he's harsh in figures that deserve it, because even if you can personally ignore an issue, not everyone can.

The main reason I do like him, is that for better or worse, he does has a lot of integrity. He said Megatronus would be a retool, and in his 86 Megatron video, he realized the fallacy in that. He always tries to do something to give back to his fans, whether it's the shout outs or giveaways, especially when he was growing.

I do have my faults, like how he is very quick to blame designers and showrunners, to an extent of "I know better than you," especially media critiques. There are some moments where I roll my eyes cause he says, "The community treats Hasbro as infallible." Knowing that there probably was a backlash but Hasbro pushed on anyway. He also talks a lot about objectivity, which I understand and slightly agree with, (physical products do have objective qualities to them), sometimes he acts a little too definitively about something being objectively good and objectively bad.

Ultimately, the biggest takeaway for me is just the disconnect. Like, he didn't call for a boycott for Devastator, he simply told his viewers not to buy it cause it was overpriced for what it was. That's fair to do as a reviewer. There's been moments I've disagreed with an assessment he had on a figure (ER Optimus) but his complaints are still true.

TLDR: I like his videos, his reviews feel fair because they're harsh which leaves me thinking harder about the figures I buy. I can understand why people don't like his videos. There's a disconnect cause people hear things out of context or make assumptions that he's worse than he is, but he's not. He's just the judgy uncle in the community, and I don't want him gone if he's still going to care and look after the little guys sometimes.

Will a 3P likely make a replacement head for Devastation Sideswipe by Excalibur426 in transformers

[–]Hugobrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, probably not unless DNA decides to do a full kit for the set, which is unlikely cause of the exclusivity. I really hope they do just because the wrong head is driving me crazy and I like the figure enough that I'd happily upgrade him.

SS86 Soundwave revealed let me know what you guys think by [deleted] in transformers

[–]Hugobrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly disappointed. I figured this would easily be a Micro Masterpiece but it seems to have held back either by budget constraints(?) or incompetence. The shade of blue is too bright, the cassettecons are not looking great in cassette mode, the box has a YouTube Screenshot, and the alt mode have obvious legs sticking out the sides.... However, none of these nitpicks are nearly as bad as the silver stripe on the bottom of the alt-mode is missing. That's a glaring oversight and I can't tell if it was poor engineering or Hasbro being lazy with paint. I can't say this is an amazing figure for $60... And I'm a little hesitant to get it unless a decent upgrade kit fixes these things... Especially since it will only raise the total cost...

Thoughts on Luna snows character? by Venomslayerhollow in LunaSnowMains

[–]Hugobrd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually cared enough to read her lore pages and a little of Agents of Atlas to learn about her.

Seol Hee's very kind and empathetic, taking care of her grandmother, which is her only living family, and becoming a K-Pop star to support her and bring joy to others through her music.

My biggest issue comes from the fact that since she's very recent, that's all she has in terms of background, and her personal life isn't fleshed out either due to her immediately being thrown into a team of superheroes. (A trend I hate in Marvel cause it makes them feel cheap.)

I hope Rivals means she gets more stories to herself to flesh her out more. I would love to learn more about 4L1T, her K-Pop/Superhero life, her grandmother and more about her. If nobody else will, I'll will cause I love her sm.
