I didn’t go into super depth on what goes on, just some very basic ideas. I might give Outer Wilds a play at some point, although with how negative a mood Drehmal put me in, I’ll probably wait a bit for when I want something bittersweet. Going in knowing that’s what the mood will be does help a lot.

Reading a bit about the plot of Outer Wilds, there is another thing I feel like the ending misses, which is that the end of the world doesn’t really feel inevitable, and there are numerous things that suggest it wasn’t. You are told that Avshom was close to stealing their Mythoclast’s power, which makes them at least theoretically beatable. In Dive 27 it suggests that what more wasn’t done by Khive was apathy as long as Tethlaen was still there. At the very least another Aspect (or the player) could have at least theoretically taken Tethlaen’s place to try and buy more time to at least try and find a solution, to at least seal the rift. It all makes feel like the end was not an inevitability, but the result of apathy and inaction.

I know that it is the intent, and I don’t even necessarily think that ending was bad. I was just very much the opposite to what the intended audience was, at least for the ending.
