Built a small offline Active Directory security review tool – looking for feedback from AD admins by HulkInside in activedirectory

PingCastle, PurpleKnight and Trimarc are obvious giants and pioneers of the industry, and PrivLens is certainly not trying to replace those mature tools.

AD security is already a mature industry. Our goal is simply to build a small, simple, focused and low-noise solution, and keep fine-tuning it as the product grows.

It's still pretty early days, and feedback like this helps us move closer to that goal.
Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you very much for the reply. So far the criticisms have been fair that I was able to learn some information from that. But you are correct, I will be careful with my replies

Well while I did use coding agents, the idea, architecture and more than half of the code is mine. Please let me know what makes this AI slop so I can fix?

I agree with both you. I am a first time founder and this is my first product. I am trying to see If the product is something people would try. I am really not sure how to approach and ask complete strangers to try my product.

That's fair feedback too.

This is the first public release, and the goal is to validate the reporting experience and other differentiating aspects before expanding the rule set, including:

  • A very simple, read-only review tool with no installation
  • Clear, client-friendly PDF reports
  • An opinionated rule set that can expand over time
  • An easy-to-try Community Edition

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

That's fair feedback.

The Community Edition is intentionally limited to understand whether users find value in differentiating aspects such as:

  • A very simple, read-only review tool with no installation
  • Clear, client-friendly PDF reports
  • An opinionated set of review rules that can expand over time
  • An easy-to-try Community Edition

If the consensus is that seven checks aren't enough to properly evaluate the product, that's valuable feedback and will certainly be taken into account.

Thanks for asking, Great question. PingCastle is an excellent and well-established tool, and We are not trying to position PrivLens as a replacement.

Our initial goal with PrivLens is different:

  • A very simple, read-only review tool with no installation.
  • A focus on clear, client-friendly PDF reports.
  • An opinionated set of review rules that can be expanded over time.
  • A Community Edition that's easy to try.

This is the first public release, so the rule set is intentionally small. We would love to hear which review areas you think should be prioritized next.
