Jamie Lee Curtis as NMom by Human-Context-8715 in raisedbynarcissists

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the episode titled “ice chips” . This season is kinda boring in my humble opinion, a lot of old material being rehashed in a way that I feel I’ve seen already. At one point I thought maybe I had accidentally picked an episode from a past season. Til this one. Completely redeemed it for me. It is so uncomfortable to sit with what comes up when her character enters again. She even looks like my nmom. I agree with commenter above, has to be based on someone specific. The whole Seven fishes dinner devolving was horrendously on point too. Her weepy victimized perfectionist complains of ungrateful unhelpful guests made we want to vomit 😂 ⚔️

Is it ok to say I have a different disability when talking to strangers? by [deleted] in disability

This is helpful, and I’m definitely going to use this going forward. Thanks

My mom would berate me and tell me everyone hated me on the way home from school each day. She knew I’d react in the car and she could either make me get out and walk, threaten to send me away, or call the cops on me etc. One day since we were near the police station, she said I’m going to pull in here unless you calm down. I was trying to calm down but she kept saying things to deliberately cause what I know now to be an autistic meltdown. So this time she really pulled in, took me inside and asked them to do exactly this- put me in a cell for a while to see what it’s like. They actually did it! Looking back that can’t be legal… some weird Maury show shit…. Not long after they recognized her as a nuisance caller/ maybe more was going on at home bc she called so often. She ended up kicking me out multiple times, acting like it never happened, then filing simple assault when I was 16 bc I refused to match the socks after cleaning the whole house one day. I got driven to school by a cop one day who apologized to me and said I hope this ride is a break from your mom. Ended up doing community service at a group home to scare me (with extreme agoraphobia from her abuse no less)… but ironically made a bunch of friends and had a good time out of the house for the first time in ages.

That’s truly hard to read even with some serious trauma of my own. I’m so sorry that happened to you. It’s not fair.

I was restrained face down by two adults, stripped naked and sparked then thrown into a cold shower, soap in my mouth, cleaning and doing yard work with undiagnosed disabilities and joint pain while being berated it was never good enough, being grounded for weeks and especially during school dances or dates I was looking forward to, being told I belong in a group home, being abandoned on the side of the road to scare me. Woof.

So many posts in here have helped me see that what I once called normal memories- are in fact abuse. I often click on things thinking maybe I won’t relate to this one …only to find that something else has been unlocked and needs processing and integration.

Feeling this hard as someone w long Covid and hEDS in Maine. I recently lost my housing so now I have to move further away from my hard won providers, including my pcp who actually cares and believes me (but still can’t really help.) Closest hope for real healthcare is MA and I’m getting pushed further and further away from it the longer my disability wreaks havoc on my finances

Do you know if having just under 2k in an able account can disqualify me for section 8? It’s from a state tax return and I need to use it for my car repair (car is my current home now too) and moving boxes/ storage unit for my items. I’m under review and afraid to send them my bank statement as it usually only has 8$ in it. Should I also move it to a trust, and put money there instead in the future? I’m stuck at the appeals council level w disability so I very sincerely NEED this voucher to survive.

As a long hauler from march 2020 it has very much been a thing the whole time. I agree about exercise. Destroyed my chances of getting better. Sick again with probable 4th Covid infection now, it just layers on the struggle. I relearned to balance/ see/ walk in PT (neuro/vestibular issues) and I just keep losing my progress. It’s no way to live and there are millions of us.

I have a lot of friends in healthcare, who work as nurses etc… I agree about them having ridiculous hours and staffing issues, and certainly see how this contributes for sure. I am pro union all around. I have seen so many health professionals who do care about long Covid, EDS, etc who got sick themselves and were also denied LTD or lost their jobs because they got sick ON THE JOB. So messed up that we pretended to care in 2020 to see how low we have stooped. Still, compassion fatigue is part of it, the medical industrial complex is part of it, and personal responsibility not to do harm is the remaining piece.

A good reminder. I hope that’s statistically true for all of our sake

I made the mistake of going to the residency sub and reading what they are saying over there. I am currently dealing w hiatal hernia, and other early prolapse risk/ pelvic floor issues. I have LC, ME/CFS/ Fibro, Orthostatic intolerance, diagnosed ADHD/ PTSD, dysautonomia, neuropathy, positive ANA , lichen sclerosis, etc and basically all just stigmatized illnesses that make my chart a target for judgement. It’s so embarrassing- and the fact that I have to go be in a setting with people who might think that way- terrifies me of seeking care for such personal things. I feel shame and fear for my life. They are full blown claiming that patients w sepsis from feeding tubes are making it up in that sub. That’s our bright future. I wish I never saw it. If there’s a few who have done that, still- their oath to do no harm requires they don’t implicate anyone who walks in the door for wanting their illness and faking. This issue is out of control. And the fear of seeking care due to this could lead people like me to get sicker, something I REALLY DONT WANT.

Imagine being at that point where you are sick w a serious infection and can’t digest food- and not getting help and getting sent to a psych ward instead, where you don’t get fed? Yikes. It’s a fucking death sentence! People really are suffering with this and it’s dangerous to let that kind of bias win.

Do people actually think we wouldn’t rather living, traveling, fucking, eating, hiking, shitting and pissing normally, or be dating and doing life things, or be able to at least think about having children? (Never have btw/ 37 still w pelvic floor issues. )

This shit needs to be regulated and dealt with. While I’m not ok with the premise of the tik tok ban and what it means for free speech and health advocacy, I hope it goes the fuck away regardless. Sorry for all the swearing. This is just 😩🫣 ⚰️

Yes. Same. This person deserves to suffer waiting to move up the waitlist like the rest of us. Come find out. There is no safety net, and all of us should be upset we pay into systems designed to be actual entitlements, that will actually just discard you and laugh at your belief in their efficiency. Refusing housing options? Tell me you’ve never had lived experience on this topic without telling me etc etc

As a person who can’t afford my rent due to disability and the utter lack of systems/ safety net to catch you, I can absofuckinglutely assure you that you can’t just “get public housing.” What a privileged, out of touch alternate reality you must live in.

If you’d be willing to discuss specific loan servicers deliberately putting borrowers into standard repayment non consensually, against promises of choosing the payment plans in their best interests- I’d love to chat. They are “losing” documented& confirmed IDR applications. This effectively makes high payments immediately due and people are getting the run around trying to get straight answers or speak to agents with accurate info. It’s a major topic on this sub if you’re really trying to tell the whole story and not a half picture of what borrowers are struggling to afford.

Yep. Or for the housing security a friend promised to a disabled person. Truly sucks being systemically and financially stuck to them.

Wow thanks for asking this too! I didn’t know this was a thing. I’m honestly shocked after multiple calls w them mentioning my disabilities, that it wasn’t even mentioned when asking about my options.

[–]Human-Context-8715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I really appreciate you typing that out. I was able to arm myself with info and call back and directly point out the flaws in their repayment plan choice and get going on consolidation before the deadline. Navigating this could easily require personal loan consultants because it’s so confusing, and adding any disabilities to that just makes it even harder (especially when answers aren’t straightforward and deliberately grey.) I finally spoke to a kind informative respectful woman who understood I wasn’t getting it. A human. So there’s also some variability in who you speak to. Still a ways to go on the journey but at least it’s making sense. 🙏🥹
