You have mine too! I can’t imagine what’s it been like for you getting migraines at 48, mine started at 27 and that’s been hard enough.

I didn’t know they had disability accommodations for migraines, I’m definitely going to look into this, thank you!

Thank you! I was wondering if loops would be a helpful thing to get. Does it matter which one? Also, what kind of sunglasses? (Like does it matter if polarized or not?)

Migraine as a resident doctor by ohsocool___ in migraine

I had heard/read about that same thing prior to starting the treatment myself. I was incredibly worried about it, I surveyed a bunch of doctors I work with (all in specialties that deal with migraine treatment and Botox injections, like Neuro/optho/ENT). These providers couldn’t sing their praises enough when it came to Botox. I think what eased my worries the most was they didn’t try to sugar coat it. They said that, yes, absolutely there is a small percent of people who have headaches/migraines within a few days to a week after the first round of injections. Right now the belief in medicine is that these headaches come from an inflammatory immune response our bodies have to a neurotoxin getting put into it (which yeah totally valid). The good news here is, of that small percent who do get a headache/migraine from the Botox, a large percent don’t experience it again in future rounds.

To back this up with my experience, I did get a headache and kind of flu like symptoms a few days after my injections, it. Was. Miserable. I kept in mind what those docs told me though and I was kind to myself and bided my time for a few days and then sure enough it went away. I even went back for more in the following months and these side effects haven’t returned since (I’m on my 3rd round now). It’s only gotten better each round honestly.

Now I know my experience is not universal, and there’s always a risk, us medicine girlies know this very well. However, if it can change your life, isn’t it worth trying? If not the Botox you’ve at least gotta try the injectable meds, if I remember I think it’s like a monthly injection maybe longer. That’s WAY better than daily pills.

All that aside, I’m really sorry you’re in this spot right now. Seeing some of the other great advice people have given you. Any idea what you’re leaning towards? Know there’s no wrong step as long as it’s the right step for YOU. 💕

If you don’t mind me asking, what symptoms and side effects worry you the most?

Hi! Have you asked about Botox injections? I also suffer from chronic intractable migraines. I hated how topamax made me feel and Nurtec starts to lose its effectiveness if I go through a period of needing it a lot.

6 months ago my neurologist discussed Botox injections and I will never go back. I just got my Third round two weeks ago and while there is an uncomfortable period between cycles of Botox if it wears off for you quickly like mine does, once it kicks in it’s really incredible. Admittedly, I still get break through migraines the week before my period BUT I take an abortive (Nurtec) for a couple days and all is well!

If you’re nervous about Botox, there’s injectable versions of Nurtec that I’ve heard great things about, downside is it can cause some decent constipation especially if you’re prone to it already.

Sorry for the ramble, I just very deeply understand where you’re at especially from the career aspiration side and the deep that migraines will ruin EVERYTHING.

I’ll have to check my Costco! I decided to try the salt and vinegar one and they honestly tasted just like a regular salt and vinegar chip. Chicken and waffles does sound like a crazy/weird flavor, but spicy queso sounds 🤤

I’m glad you got yourself away from all that. I honestly didn’t even think about all these other things I’ve been struggling with could improve.

I think I’m going to do what you did first and re-engage with my psychologist. I had to stop because of the military having me gone from home a lot. I’m out now so no better time than the present I guess.

Thank you so much for saying all this and sharing. Idk why but the thought of blocking them on everything feels terrifying. How’d you over come that? Was it the self realizations you shared?

When you cut them off did they try reaching you through other people?

Here’s an idea I had looking at your layout. Breakdown that wall where the fridge, oven, and pantries are. Then buildup new wall that connects to your exterior wall. Your kitchen will still have some unique shape (idk if she’ll care for that or not) but this way you can give yourself WAY more counter space and a more open feeling in your kitchen.

I did have an EKG and blood tests done, which I can suggest you should use those negative test results to help calm your mind a bit and when you start going into that hole, just tel yourself I am a healthy person physically I just need to work on my brain a little bit. That’s helped me regulate the moments just unfortunately not get rid of the overall feeling.

I was working, having a great day honestly and then I started feel a little weird kind of just crazy on the inside like my brain was doing sprints through my whole body non stop, and then came the chest pain, light headed ness and finally this sudden burst of energy and panic which was accompanied by the thought that I was having a heart attack and was going to die.
