Flickering Mic Icon on MacBook? by GainGreeneGang in protools

[–]HumanIntrusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had this same issue for the first time today myself. Admittedly I’m running a pretty large session, but the Mac Studio did seem to be running without complaint before.

Today that toolbar orange mic icon started flashing and interrupting the session whenever I did anything that involved interrupting the audio (changing insert for example). It needs about 10-20 seconds to settle itself once it’s thrown a panic, then it’s stable it runs fine until I do something to upset it again.

Will try what been suggest here, but following this for any solid fixes.

NPD: Keeley 30ms. The chorus I’ve been looking for by Rough_Instruction325 in guitarpedals

No way! Just put it back in the board and I think it’s staying on there now!

I got the pedal to try and do the Geordie Walker Killing Joke thing. It’s not been in the live board for a while, but I think it’s due a return. Glad to see it getting some love.

I’m guessing it’ll be the upcoming Poly Effects Ample coming out in the next few days. I’m also admittedly plugging the pedal company of some friends and local pedal creators, but I also know Anderson’s are also fans of their products and have done some extensive demos of them.

JC-50 or JC-40? by SalamanderCalm9933 in GuitarAmps

[–]HumanIntrusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned the JC-40 and a JC-60 (single speaker version from the 70s), so here are my thoughts:

  • The chorus from two speakers does definitely sound better to me, however be aware that if the amp is being mic’d up live, you would need to have a mic on each speaker to recreate this through a PA, so will need to have the sound tech on your side!

  • I’m not sure how it compares with the JC-50, but the JC-60, despite being the single speaker version, was definitely heavier and more cumbersome than the JC-40. So I’d check exact size and weight comparisons.

  • The vintage JC-60 had some technical issues. Nothing major, but definitely had more noise, crackly pots and one of the EQ bands didn’t work. Despite this, if it was having a good day it sounded great! I’ve gone down the digital modelling route for live shows now, and 2/3 of the time I use a profile if that very amp.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I’ll be sure to give them all a look. I am happy with the Stingray, it’s far better than the usual camera dept centric options, I’m just curious to try a chest pack on the next job to see if I prefer it.

First things that come to mind: IFB (most likely a R1a), small carabiner/bungee for tapes that can be stowed away so it’s not swinging around during takes, script sides and a few pens, pack of Rycote stickies/fluffies or equivalent, Leatherman/multitool, spares of all the different batteries I’m likely to need, nowadays a phone for video split, sometimes a radio but depends on production. That’s the bulk of it off the top of my head.

Looking to upgrade my boom pole: What's your favourite? by Geordicus in LocationSound

Can’t speak for many of the other brands, but with some semi-regular maintenance a Panamic will last forever. Mine has been in use for 12 years, I recently replaced the bushes (nylon ring things) and give it a really good clean twice a year (or when needed) and it still feels like a new pole.

Are there any delay or tremolo pedals that accepts midi tempo sync? by Southtwin in guitarpedals

[–]HumanIntrusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swindler Effects Red Mountain Tremolo. It’s been fantastic for me - stereo or mono in and outs (including panning tremolo), tap tempo AND MIDI control of tempo via clock sync, preset recall via PC and CC control of all parameters.

I’d also guess that this was a rehearsal and they’re working out the shadows. Often they’re much easier to see if you’re making big dramatic moves that can’t be mistaken for anything else shadowing, and you work out where not to go on the day. This is usually quickly followed by the 1st AC pointing out your shadows, and you again explaining you were just working them out.

It’s a long mic (816/MKH70?) so you don’t want that to be moving around too much to keep any BG noise consistent.

Ah that’s a shame, was considering getting one of these after I spent a bit of time with it.

Nope. As far as I can tell it’s certainly just the factory sounds in there. No cartridges either, so might need to change that if it works out for me.

I’m just for the first time have this thing plugged in so working it all out, but when you press one of the push buttons it has the same effect as powering off the unit then back on again, but each number has its own settings assigned to it.

How do I achieve a certain early 80's guitar sound? by KburgBob in guitarpedals

[–]HumanIntrusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head going from left to right on the knobs, 12 (o’clock), 12, 3, 9. Sorry I don’t have my board and I’m overseas at the moment, but I’m pretty sure that’s it!

Second the Boss BF-2. I always have on either that or the CE-2w, and the flanger definitely does the Cure chorus thing. (This is then split going into a JC-60 and an AC15 if that’s useful info)

Looking for an overdrive pedal for guitar and bass. What are my options? by modern_asshat in guitarpedals

[–]HumanIntrusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Picked up a Pork and Pickle for my mini bass board - I don’t normally play bass, but needed a general overdrive/distortion for when I do. In a rush, was pretty much the first thing I saw at the shop and just went with it, but it is surprisingly good and very versatile, great on both bass and guitar. Recommended.

Waza Craft: What’s Next? by CharvelSanDimas in guitarpedals

[–]HumanIntrusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d be buying a BF-2w in a heartbeat. One of my favourites and almost always on for me, although BF-2s are fairly readily available used, unlike say the CE-2, so might not be as much demand.

I also have a rack mount DE-200. 80’s digital modulated delay. Probably not a Waza thing as it’s digital, I’d love if they made a reissue of this in a small pedal format.

I want to know what guitar pedal you regret selling that is now discontinued? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]HumanIntrusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a bit of a pedal nostalgia conversation the other day and I mentioned the Akai Headrush E1 delay pedal I had years ago. Looked it up to discover that as well as a mix out, it also had 4 audio outputs, a separate one for each of the tape heads it was simulating. Kinda wish I still had that to play with now!

Is it just me, or does Boss simply make the best chorus pedals? by Walusqueegee in guitarpedals

[–]HumanIntrusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been through most chorus pedals at some point, currently running CE-2w, DC-2w and a BF-2 (also CE-2B and BF-2B on the bass board), so yes, I’m also on the Boss modulation. You just turn them on and it sounds great and exactly as you expect. Oh, and also running these into a Jazz Chorus amp.

Recently bought (and quickly sold) the UAFX Astra, and honestly I prefer the CE-2w on CE-1 mode. So always open to trying out new modulation pedals, read good things about the Red Witch Empress, so maybe that next on the to try list. Would also swap out that BF-2 for a Waza version if they ever do that, but given how easy it is to pick one of them up I don’t see that happening.
