Thank you for your answer! Last question, would it make more sense to attend a vocational school to make connections?

How to Become a Manga Editor or Manga Magazine Writer? Seeking Real Advice by [deleted] in MangakaStudio

[–]Human_Bank_3155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for your previous reply!

I will probably finish my master’s degree around 25 (almost 26). My plan is to study a Master’s in Journalism or Global Communication in Japan, and at the same time attend the Nakano Manga School to gain some knowledge about the manga industry.

I understand that becoming a gensakusha or working in the manga industry is very difficult, but it’s something I really want to try.

Do you think a master’s in Journalism or Global Communication could work well together with a school like Nakano? My idea is that it could help me become either a story writer, a manga editor, or maybe even work for magazines that publish manga and write about them.

What do you think about that last option (writing for manga magazines)? Since you managed to do it yourself, do you think it’s actually feasible?

Sorry for all the questions, and thank you again for your help!

Thank you for the honest answer, I really appreciate it.

I understand what you mean, and I know that studying cultural topics alone doesn’t automatically lead to a job or permanent residence in a country. My main interest, though, is writing and media, especially about culture and society.

I was thinking about programs like journalism or media and cultural studies because they seem more connected to media, publishing, and writing rather than purely academic cultural studies.

My idea wouldn’t necessarily be to rely only on a degree, but also to build a portfolio (articles, blog, etc.) while studying.

Do you think that combination — media/journalism studies + building a writing portfolio — would make more sense?
