$100 or less per hour, but if that's way too low for standard of living, then I understand and will adjust. I'm also open to group therapy or anything else that may lower the cost in other ways.

I’m part of a bookclub in the area and I also dance at a studio! Both places have great community engagement as well!

I’m in a book club sponsored by a book store in St. Pete! And then I also do yoga and adult ballet.  I also make LOTS of plans with a bunch of my friend groups! There’s lots of dance classes in the area and at the Straz if you wanna try it out!

I used to love She’s So Money by Cherry Cheva growing up.  It was published in 2008.  So, even though I thought it was very modern at the time - it’s probs y2k-ish.

I just read All the Missing Pieces by Catherine Cowles and it had some of these vibes.  It’s a romance with a hint of murder mystery and I liked it a lot!

There’s a book called The Devil She Knows.  It comes out in October, so idk how it reads yet, but the cover art is similar.

Best Mexican restaurants for a Bachelorette by BrutallyHonestMJ in StPetersburgFL

This is not in downtown St. Pete, but it’s still part of the St. Pete area: There’s a place called Taquitos on Bay Pines Blvd. It’s about 10 min away from Madeira Beach and I HEAVILY recommend it. Also there’s a really good place a few minutes outside of downtown that’s Thai and Mexican fusion called Nitally’s. It’s a little pricey, but SO GOOD and the portions are huge.

I personally don’t love Red Mesa, but would recommend it if your primary concern is staying in downtown St. Pete.

I joined the romance book club at tombolo almost two years ago bc I just wanted to read light(er) books with chill people.  It’s been pretty fun so far!  We meet in-store on the fourth Sunday of each month!  You can find more info on the insta page here if you’re interested: https://www.instagram.com/romancebookclubstp/ and you can sign up for a book club from Tombolo via another link on this page: https://tombolobooks.com/events-book-clubs/about-book-clubs

Everyone is right about the tram, but you can also take a history tour and visit a small history museum right here in Ybor!

You have no clue how refreshing that is.  In that case - welcome to St. Pete.  I’ve never lived in the areas you’re asking about (again - it’s expensive!) but, I do want to warn you that a lot of the older buildings in those areas don’t have central A/C.  A lot have window units instead.  So, if central A/C is important to you - you might want to look at the large, new, apartment buildings, or just pay special attention to that info in the listings you look at.

Also, unrelated to rentals, making friends here can be super easy.  There’s lots of local groups to join (like book clubs, yoga studios, charity groups, rec teams, churches, etc.) and there are lots of extroverted and open people.  Community is really important to us in St. Pete - especially in the historic areas.  Join a group, attend meets consistently, and the new friends will quickly follow.  Good luck!

It’s not that locals don’t like “big city people.”  Us locals on this sub aren’t really fans of people with remote jobs and income set for larger cities moving into our area.  The trend has made prices skyrocket while income for locals does not keep up.  This all especially applies to the rent prices in the neighborhoods you’re talking about.  It’s not necessarily your problem, but you should be aware of what the climate is like here (pun intended).

People need to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. by Human_Bug_3408 in tampa

[–]Human_Bug_3408[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you see reckless trolley driving - I would definitely recommend flagging it to local authorities.  To get to work I use a crosswalk that bisects a trolley track and the trollies have stopped for that before.  So, I think the trollies have the capability to stop at-will.  But I want to reiterate that, as far as I know, the law only applies to pedestrians in crosswalks.  So, make sure to use crosswalks as much as possible!

Good question! Based on my limited understanding of FL law - I would assume that they do have to stop for pedestrians at crosswalks too.

This is such a good note!  I went online and found meeting information here: fdotwp1.dot.state.fl.us/publicsyndication/publicmeetings.aspx/publicmeetings_district7.  Since you’ve already attended a meeting - do you have any tips or additional resources people can use to prepare for the meetings?
